On September 17th, XPENG Motors officially unveiled its new mid-to-large-sized SUV, the XPENG G9L, which comes in six variants, including range-extended hybrid and pure electric models. The two range-extended hybrid versions are priced between 249,800 and 299,800 yuan, while the four pure electric models range from 231,800 to 309,800 yuan. The official tagline for the XPENG G9L is clear-cut: the flagship 5-seater tech SUV.
It is evident that XPENG Motors has poured considerable resources into this vehicle and harbors high hopes for its success. Wang Fengying, the typically reserved president of XPENG Motors, stated candidly that after over 30 years in the SUV industry, the XPENG G9L is her favorite SUV, without exception. She also asserted that at its price point, it has no global peers and is a vehicle that can stand up to the scrutiny of consumers worldwide.
Next, let's delve into whether the XPENG G9L truly has no global rivals within its price bracket, as Wang Fengying claims, by examining its key product features.

When it comes to design, there's not much to elaborate on. XPENG Motors has not established a distinct family design language across its vehicle lineup, with each model showcasing a unique design aesthetic. However, objectively speaking, the XPENG G9L does make a striking impression. It boasts a length of 5.12 meters, a width of nearly 2 meters, and a wheelbase of 3.1 meters. Among its peers, the XPENG G9L's body dimensions and wheelbase offer significant advantages.
In terms of configuration, the entire range comes standard with an 8.8-inch full-LCD instrument panel, an 88-inch HUD head-up display, a 17.3-inch central control screen, an 8-inch rear entertainment screen, full-vehicle seat ventilation, heating, and massage functions, a built-in refrigerator, ±7.5-degree rear-wheel steering, and dual-chamber air suspension. The intelligent assisted driving system is equipped with LiDAR and XPENG's self-developed Turing AI driving chip, supporting highway and urban NOA (Navigate on Autopilot), reverse tracking, and full-scenario parking assistance.
The pure electric version offers a maximum range of 755 kilometers and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in as little as 4.45 seconds. The range-extended hybrid version provides a pure electric range of up to 435 kilometers and a combined range of over 1,600 kilometers on a full tank and charge. Except for the pure electric 702Max model, the other five models are equipped with front and rear dual motors, all featuring CALB power batteries. Both the range-extended hybrid and pure electric versions support 800-volt high-voltage fast charging.

The pure electric version can charge from 10% to 80% in as little as 10.7 minutes, with a maximum range replenishment of 540 kilometers in 12 minutes. The range-extended hybrid version takes 11 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%, also offering rapid replenishment, and can run on 92-octane gasoline.
Considering the XPENG G9L's price and configuration, it offers competitive advantages compared to models in the same price range and category. However, whether it truly has no global rivals at this price point remains debatable. It's important to note that the XPENG G9L faces stiff competition from rivals like the Li Auto L6, Li Auto i6, Seres M7, Xiaomi Pengcheng N90, BYD Shark 08, and Datang EV, all of which will compete directly with the XPENG G9L.
In terms of premium offerings, Li Auto and Seres lead the way; in intelligent driving, Seres is far ahead; in terms of popularity, Xiaomi Pengcheng is unparalleled; and in brand influence, BYD remains the dominant force. Additionally, the XPENG G9L lacks a 6-seater version, failing to meet the needs of consumers who require a larger 6-seater.

Finally, let's examine the XPENG G9's sales performance over the past six months. Monthly sales were below 300 units in May and June, with the highest monthly sales of 558 units in July this year. August sales were 389 units, lower than those of the XPENG X9. So, do you think the XPENG G9L, which Wang Fengying claims has no global rivals in its price range, can become a best-selling model?
