Recently, AMD announced that it will lay off 4% of its global workforce, which amounts to nearly 1,000 employees out of its estimated 26,000 global employees.
An AMD spokesperson said, "As part of aligning our resources with our biggest growth opportunities, we are taking some targeted measures. Unfortunately, these measures will result in a reduction of about 4% in our global workforce. We are committed to respecting the affected employees and helping them navigate this transition period."

It is reported that compared to Nvidia, whose stock price has surged and market capitalization has reached $3.6 trillion, AMD's market capitalization is currently only $227 billion.
AMD stated in October that it expects AI chip sales to reach $5 billion this year, approximately one-fifth of its approximately $25.7 billion. AMD holds a position in console processors/GPUs, but this generation's market performance has been weaker than expected, partly due to pandemic-related supply shortages of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
However, according to Mercury Research, AMD currently holds a 34% market share in processors along with Intel, a significant increase from a few years ago. Analyst Jon Peddie said, "Although AMD's performance did not meet Wall Street expectations, it still had a good quarter. I believe AMD does not seem overburdened with its workforce, and the current decision to lay off employees is terrible. I suggest AMD wait a few more months."
