Apple unveiled its latest iOS 18 system at WWDC, featuring the integration of Apple Intelligence, Apple's own large model. With the addition of an AI model to Siri, Apple's assistant can now support continuous conversation and contextual understanding, making it a part of Apple's AI ecosystem. However, despite the alluring promise of this AI functionality, Apple seems to have set expectations sky-high, as this feature is not expected to be available until 2025.
Apple will host its Fall product launch event in September, showcasing the new iPhone 16 series, and iOS 18 will officially debut. However, the much-anticipated AI-powered Siri will not accompany the official release of iOS 18 but will continue to undergo refinement, likely to ensure that data privacy meets Apple's stringent standards. According to renowned Apple journalist Mark Gurman, the AI-powered Siri is expected to begin testing in January of next year and will finally be released to the public along with iOS 18.4, the final version of iOS 18. This means that even users eager to try out the AI-powered Siri will have to wait for another six months, while regular users may have to wait for nine months or more.
Meanwhile, utilizing Apple Intelligence is no easy feat. Firstly, your device must have 8GB of RAM, effectively excluding the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus from using Apple Intelligence. To make Apple Intelligence more accessible, Apple has had to equip all iPhone 16 series models with 8GB of RAM. By the time Apple officially launches the AI-powered Siri, iOS 19 might already be on the horizon, and the rapidly evolving Android large models may have advanced to an unknown version. It seems that Apple is being overly conservative in the AI era.
