Following Samsung's product release convention, the Samsung Fan Edition will be released in the second half of each year. Although there is still some time before the event, there are already signs that Samsung is preparing for the Fan Edition of the flagship Galaxy S24 series.
Based on Samsung's naming convention for previous FE models (S20 FE codenamed R8, S21 FE codenamed R9, S23 FE codenamed R11), it is reasonable to speculate that R12 is the S24 FE.
As a derivative model of Samsung's flagship Galaxy S23 series, the Galaxy S23 FE has been favored by many consumers since its debut due to its excellent cost-effectiveness and product performance. With the launch of the Galaxy S24 series, related leaks about its derivative model, the Galaxy S24 FE, have also emerged in large numbers. Recently, a source exposed the color details of this new phone.
Recently, a topic of great interest is which main colors Samsung will choose for the Galaxy S24 FE. Among them, black is, of course, indispensable, as black phones have always been popular. According to the leak source, in addition to black, the new phone will also offer gray, light blue, light green, and yellow as other color options.
In the leaked renders of the Galaxy S24 FE last month, we already saw the silhouette of light green in advance. It features narrower bezels than its predecessor and a larger screen, reportedly measuring 6.65 inches.
However, you may not be expecting a Qualcomm chipset. There are reports that the Galaxy S24 FE will be equipped with the Exynos 2400 chip, which is the same one used by Samsung in some models of the Galaxy S24 and S24+.
In terms of specifications, this phone will come with 12GB of RAM, pre-installed with Android 14, and feature a 50-megapixel main camera along with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens and an 8/10-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom.
Additionally, Mingmei Infinite previously reported that the phone will be available in five colors: black, gray, light blue, light green, and yellow. Compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy S23 FE, Samsung's new model has reduced the bezel thickness.
The Galaxy S24 FE measures 162.06 x 77.36 x 8.05 mm, while the Galaxy S23 FE measures 158 x 76.5 x 8.2 mm. This results in a larger screen, with the Galaxy S24 FE boasting a diagonal size of 6.65 inches (compared to 6.4 inches for the Galaxy S23 FE).
Furthermore, the latest news reveals that Samsung's Galaxy S24 FE has appeared in the GeekBench benchmarking database. The phone, model number SM-S721B, runs on Android 14 (version 6.3.0) and is equipped with a prime core processor (clocked at 3.11GHz), two performance cores (clocked at 2.90GHz), three performance cores (clocked at 2.59GHz), four efficiency cores (clocked at 1.96GHz), and an Xclipse 940 GPU.
According to the benchmarking database, the European version of the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE will be powered by the Exynos 2400 processor, a low-frequency version. The phone also comes with 8GB of RAM and will run Android 14 out of the box.
It is worth mentioning that the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE shares the same 50-megapixel main camera as the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S23, and Galaxy S23 FE.
Specifically, the Galaxy S24 FE will use the ISOCELL GN3 sensor for photography. This sensor has a 1/1.57-inch size and a 1.0μm pixel size, with a maximum resolution of 8160 x 6144.
Additionally, it is reported that the Samsung S24 FE will come in models SM-S721B, SM-S721U, SM-S721W, and SM-S721N, representing the global, US, Canadian, and Korean versions, respectively.
Previous leaks have already revealed some key specifications of the Samsung S24 FE. Unlike the S23 FE, which uses the previous-generation SoC, the S24 FE is expected to be equipped with Qualcomm's latest flagship chip. Rumors suggest that this new phone will run on the same Snapdragon 8 Gen3 mobile platform as the S24 Ultra, providing users with an exceptional performance experience. Meanwhile, in some markets, Samsung may equip it with the Exynos 2400 chip, consistent with the S24 and S24+.
In terms of battery life, the S24 FE is expected to pack a 4500mAh battery and support 25W fast charging technology.
Incidentally, Mingmei Infinite recently learned from foreign media that a user discovered a test firmware build version of the Samsung S24 FE on Samsung's servers, indicating that Samsung has already begun developing the One UI experience for the new phone. The build number of the first test firmware is S721BXXU0AXE3, and while it's the global version of the phone, the One UI experience remains consistent globally. As Samsung continues development, more information about this phone should surface in the coming months.
Notably, there are only two days left until Samsung's next major event, the Galaxy Unpacked event, which is rumored to take place in Paris, France, on July 10 (the date and location have not been officially announced). Apart from the highly anticipated Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 foldable phones, the Watch 7 series will also be unveiled. With these product launches, more detailed information about the S24 FE may gradually be revealed.
In the absence of definitive S24 FE information, let's review the specifications of the S23 FE. The S23 FE is equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen1 mobile platform in the US market and Samsung's Exynos 2200 processor in other regions. Both processors come with 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage. It features a 6.4-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The phone runs One UI 5.1 based on Android 13 (upgradable to Android 14) and is equipped with in-display fingerprint recognition technology.
Finally, some of the new phone's configurations have been previously exposed (subject to actual release), and Mingmei Infinite summarizes them as follows:
Low-frequency version of the Exynos 2400 chip with a 10-core CPU clocked at 3.1 GHz.
Available in 128GB (UFS 3.1) and 256GB (UFS 4.0) storage options.
Samsung ISOCELL GN3 main camera with 50MP, 1/1.57-inch sensor, and f/1.8 aperture.
3x telephoto lens and 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens.
Expected to be equipped with a 4500mAh battery supporting 25W charging.
Of course, the specific specifications and features of the Samsung S24 FE are currently unknown. Compared to last year, when leaks about the S23 FE were abundant, this situation may indicate a possible delay in the S24 FE's release. Considering that Samsung released the S23 FE in October last year and the current development progress of the S24 FE, the release of this new phone is likely to be postponed to November or later.
Samsung has high hopes for the upcoming S24 FE, hoping that this new model can help it maintain its leading position in the fiercely competitive smartphone market. For Samsung loyalists and tech enthusiasts, more exciting news may be on the horizon in the coming weeks.
