There is roughly one month left before the end of the annual "Apple iPhone 16 Series Online Conference." Thanks to the digging efforts of various leakers, details about the entire iPhone 16 series are already quite exhaustive.
As the release of the new iPhone approaches, more information about its features is gradually emerging.
First, TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated that the new iPhone will adopt a stainless steel battery case, which not only reduces the difficulty of battery removal but also increases battery density by 5%-10%, achieving two goals with one action.
Previous leaks indicated that the battery capacity of the iPhone 16 Pro is expected to increase from 3274mAh in the iPhone 15 Pro to 3577mAh, while the Pro Max version may increase from 4422mAh to 4676mAh, a roughly 5.7% increase. If these details are confirmed, the iPhone 16 series could become the generation with the strongest battery life.
More importantly, Apple is also expected to upgrade its charging power, with the wired fast charging of the iPhone 16 Pro series set to reach 40W, and wireless fast charging to reach 20W.
Truly an exhilarating upgrade!
In terms of design, the triple-camera system introduced with the iPhone 11 Pro series has been in use for five years and will remain unchanged in the iPhone 16 Pro series.
However, there will be slight adjustments to the device's dimensions. The screen size of the iPhone 16 Pro will increase from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max will increase from 6.7 inches to 6.9 inches, but the device's thickness will remain unchanged.
Furthermore, the screen bezel is expected to narrow further to 1.15mm, a 30% reduction from the current 1.55mm, significantly enhancing the front aesthetic.
Additionally, the standard iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will adopt a vertical camera module design, reminiscent of the iPhone XS. Notably, the absent "white" color from last year is also expected to return.
It's worth mentioning that recently, overseas tech bloggers have leaked information about the iPhone 16 and even shared photos of mockups of the entire iPhone 16 standard and Pro series. Although these are merely mockups, their appearance aligns well with previous leaks, giving us a good idea of what the iPhone 16 might look like. It's likely that these mockups originated from certain phone case factories in the Pearl River Delta region.
According to the exposed mockups, the iPhone 16 standard edition will offer five colors, including the conventional black and white, but blue and green are likely to attract more attention. Both colors are eye-catching and suitable for young users who seek individuality.
Leaks suggest that if the colors are similar to previous models, they will be brighter. For example, the green resembles "mint" green, while the blue is more sky blue. Currently, we don't know the exact hues of these new colors, but based on the trends, the new white may appear more silver-like, and the purple could be very vibrant.
So far, the rumored iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are expected to come in four colors, three of which are black, white, and gray. However, the fourth color is under debate, either a mix of cement gray and desert yellow or gray and rose.
There are also rumors that the iPhone 16 Pro will abandon the brushed titanium style seen in the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Instead, Apple may adopt a smoother, glossier finish. This means the iPhone 16 Pro devices will resemble past stainless steel models but retain the durability of titanium. However, this view is currently unconfirmed.
In the same article mentioning the elimination of the yellow option for the base iPhone 16, Apple seems unlikely to offer a blue titanium option for the iPhone 16 Pro series, instead opting for a rose gold color, potentially replacing the blue titanium variant.
Moreover, the iPhone 16 standard edition features a new camera module design that is significantly more streamlined compared to the diagonal design of the iPhone 15 standard edition. This lens layout is speculated to enable spatial video recording capabilities for the iPhone 16 standard edition, undoubtedly boosting the popularity of Apple Vision Pro. Additionally, the widely acclaimed action buttons from the previous Pro models will also be included in this standard edition.
In terms of specifications, the iPhone 16 series will be equipped with the new A18 chip series. This chip adopts the latest TSMC N3E process technology, delivering slight improvements in both performance and energy efficiency. Additionally, the A18 chip enhances AI capabilities, providing a smarter and smoother user experience. All iPhone 16 models will come standard with 8GB of RAM to handle the high memory demands of new features introduced in iOS 18, such as Apple Intelligence.
Finally, in terms of photography, the iPhone 16 Pro is expected to adopt the same 5x periscope telephoto lens as the iPhone 15 Pro Max, while the ultra-wide-angle lens will be upgraded from 12MP to 48MP, supporting the recording of higher-resolution spatial videos. While these improvements are modest, they will still appeal to photography enthusiasts.
By the way, sources within Apple's supply chain have revealed that Apple has recently made slight adjustments to its production targets for the iPhone 16 series, setting them at approximately 90 million units. This adjustment reflects Apple's increased confidence in the new models.
At this year's WWDC, Apple introduced Apple Intelligence (AI), which Morgan Stanley analysts believe will stimulate consumer demand for upgrades.
Currently, only the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max support AI due to their powerful AI computing capabilities. Users of older iPhone models who wish to experience Apple AI must upgrade to the iPhone 16 series.
Regarding the limitation of AI to the iPhone 15 Pro series, Apple explained that this new technology requires significant bandwidth, NPU, and robust device performance to function optimally.
Theoretically, AI can run on older iPhone models but at a much slower speed.
Apple has also denied that limiting AI functionality to the iPhone 15 Pro series is a marketing strategy to encourage users to purchase the new iPhone 16 models.
Furthermore, it is rumored that the iPhone 16 Plus will be Apple's last Plus model, with the iPhone 17 series expected to introduce new models to replace the Plus series next year.
That concludes our detailed rundown of the iPhone 16 series leaks. Assuming there are no unexpected surprises, this is what we can expect from the iPhone 16.
Whether Apple is merely squeezing out incremental improvements or genuinely showing sincerity is a matter of personal opinion.
In a month's time, when Apple officially unveils the iPhone 16 series, the online discourse promises to be lively and intense.
