Huawei's Extraordinary Master brand ceremony and HarmonyOS Smart Drive new product launch event will be held on September 10th, when Huawei Mate XT Extraordinary Master will be officially launched.

Based on Huawei Mate XT's naming, X represents Huawei's large folding series, and T might stand for "Triple," meaning "three times," combining to form "tri-fold," referring to the previously exposed Huawei tri-fold screen phone.

First of all, it's interesting, very interesting. On the upcoming September 10th, Apple and Huawei will meet again, both bringing their latest mobile phone products. Apple is expected to release the iPhone 16 series, while Huawei brings a brand new form factor – the tri-fold phone Huawei Mate XT Extraordinary Master!

That's right, it's tri-fold! Compared to existing foldable phones, Huawei Mate XT Extraordinary Master can fold twice, allowing for an even larger unfolded size.

With Huawei Mate XT Extraordinary Master's comprehensive pre-order opening, it marks the imminent official launch of Huawei's first commercial tri-fold phone. It is understood that users can currently pre-order the new product on Huawei's official website and Huawei Mall APP. Notably, the number of pre-orders surpassed 100,000 within seconds.

Moreover, Huawei recently released a teaser video featuring Andy Lau for Huawei Mate XT Extraordinary Master, revealing the phone's actual appearance for the first time.

Huawei Mate XT Extraordinary Master adopts a similar design language to Mate X5, but with an additional screen section.

The video shows that when unfolded, the screen size is enormous, featuring a dual-hinge design.

The back design resembles that of Mate60 RS Extraordinary Master, with an octagonal rear camera module, including a square periscope telephoto lens.

At the bottom are Huawei and ULTIMATE DESIGN (Extraordinary Master) brand logos, and the back cover is made of leather-like material.

Additionally, the video suggests that even with its tri-fold design, Huawei Mate XT Extraordinary Master maintains excellent thickness control, with an expected thickness of less than 5mm when unfolded.

In terms of folding, the phone can be fully unfolded, fully folded for use as a regular phone, or folded on one side to create a square screen effect similar to current mainstream foldable phones.

Yu Chengdong previously stated that this is Huawei's most leading, innovative, and disruptive product.

Although the phone has not yet been released and its price has not been disclosed, it has already been successfully labeled as a "new generation electronic Moutai" financial product. Some secondary markets have listed it for up to 30,000 yuan, indicating high expectations for this product. Rendered videos resembling the phone have also emerged online, showcasing its transformation from phone to tablet upon unfolding, which is quite impressive.

Incidentally, based on currently available information, Huawei Mate XT Extraordinary Master employs a dual-hinge design, combining an outward-folding screen with an inward-folding screen, resulting in an unfolded size of approximately 10 inches, comparable to a tablet.

The official phone case is equipped with a stylus holder on the side, enhancing productivity capabilities and providing significant advantages in document and spreadsheet processing.

According to reports, the challenge of the tri-fold hinge is not significant; the real challenge lies in the screen, which must address the stretching issues caused by both outward and inward folding to avoid visible creases.

Previously, Yu Chengdong exposed the phone's excellent crease control, suggesting that Huawei has found a new screen solution, perhaps involving proprietary technologies, leading the industry.

Currently, multiple phone manufacturers have iterated on foldable phones. Huawei's first foldable phone, the Mate X, was released in 2019, featuring an outward-folding design with an 8-inch OLED screen. When folded, a 6.6-inch display is exposed for daily use. Since then, Huawei has released around ten foldable phone models, covering various form factors such as horizontal outward folding, horizontal inward folding, and vertical small folding.

In the tri-fold segment, no products have officially hit the market yet due to the higher requirements for screen flexibility, durability, and hinge strength, which increase the difficulty of mass production.

Samsung showcased tri-fold phones named Flex G and Flex S at CES 2022. The former employs a "G"-shaped folding method, folding the side screens inward, appearing bulky. The latter uses an "S"-shaped folding method, where the outer screen is part of the foldable screen. When unfolded, the two additional screens hidden inside and the outer screen combine to form an extra-large display.

In May this year, TCL CSOT also showcased a Tandem tri-fold phone prototype at SID 2024, capable of switching freely between "S"-shaped and "G"-shaped folding modes.

It is understood that Huawei has been working on tri-fold phones for years, having applied for multiple patents related to tri-fold screens as early as 2022. On February 21, 2024, Huawei applied for a patent titled "Foldable Device," showcasing a new form factor of electronic device with triple folding, comprising three shells, two hinges, and a flexible screen, connected using one inward-folding hinge and one outward-folding hinge. Industry insiders suggest that Huawei will see a dense release of new products in the second half of the year, further improving its layout in the foldable phone market from mid-range to high-end.

It is noteworthy that the Extraordinary Master series is Huawei's top-end premium line, with prices far exceeding competitors. This time, combined with the buff of being the world's first tri-fold phone, the new device is expected to command a significant market premium upon release, potentially replicating the supply shortage seen with the Mate 60 series and becoming the new "electronic Moutai," with a price that may exceed 20,000 yuan.

Finally, as China's first mass-produced tri-fold phone with the ultra-premium positioning of the Extraordinary Master series, Huawei Mate XT Extraordinary Master is bound to be highly sought after. We will have to wait for the September 10th launch event to see the actual device and its price.

In summary, Huawei Mate XT Extraordinary Master's pre-order availability even before its official launch has garnered significant consumer interest, reflecting high recognition of Huawei's technological prowess and innovation capabilities. It also portends a new wave of technological excitement surrounding this upcoming product. It is foreseeable that with the launch of Huawei Mate XT Extraordinary Master, it will inject a much-needed boost into the sluggish mobile phone market, stimulating consumer purchasing enthusiasm, driving industry development, and raising market sales ceilings.

Choosing to go head-to-head with Apple by holding a launch event on the same day, Huawei has unveiled its top-end premium series phone brimming with technological prowess. Will this highly innovative and disruptive product shake up the mobile phone market? Let's wait and see on September 10th.
