Tomorrow morning, iPhone 16 will be officially released, marking the arrival of a super heavyweight player in the entire mobile phone industry. All competitors now have a clear target to catch up with. Huawei has already taken the lead by announcing its first triple-folding screen phone and an under-screen version of the iPhone 16 series. However, its true trump card, the Mate 70, will come slightly later. Although other manufacturers need to follow Qualcomm's pace and won't release their products as early, product preheating has already begun, with Xiaomi being one of them. Of course, to compete with iPhone 16, Xiaomi can only bring out Xiaomi 15. Today, Lu Weibing gave a very strong hint about Xiaomi 15.
Lu Weibing clearly stated that Xiaomi will be the first to launch a flagship new platform. Based on the timing, it is obvious that he is referring to the Snapdragon 8 Gen4. Apart from Xiaomi 15, it's hard to imagine which other unreleased Xiaomi phone could undertake this task of being the first to feature this chip. To imply the powerful performance of Xiaomi 15, Lu Weibing emphasized the changes in the Snapdragon 8 Gen4, and the information he revealed aroused much interest among many people.
First, he mentioned the term 'inflection point,' which is usually used to describe significant technological upgrades in a product or industry. Whether the Snapdragon 8 Gen4 is indeed that powerful will be revealed by Qualcomm at its product launch in October. However, based on previous online information and Lu Weibing's remarks today, it seems that the Snapdragon 8 Gen4 will bring considerable upgrades, especially with its main frequency exceeding 4.0GHz and the use of two super-large cores, indicating a significant boost in phone performance when equipped with this chip. Of course, this also tests the manufacturers' adaptability.
Regarding the 'two processors in the first tier,' one is the Snapdragon 8 Gen4, and the other is naturally the Dimensity 9400. 'The winner will soon be revealed,' implying that one of the chips will outperform the other. Currently, it's impossible to say which one is stronger, but time will tell. In response to some doubts from netizens, Lu Weibing provided a brief explanation. Many people believe that stronger performance often means higher power consumption, which may affect battery life under long-term high loads.
However, Lu Weibing claimed that while the Snapdragon 8 Gen4 boasts powerful performance, its power consumption has been effectively controlled. Every aspect of the new chip represents a revolutionary upgrade from its predecessors. Whether this seemingly exaggerated claim is true will soon be verified. Xiaomi's long-standing deep cooperation with Qualcomm has allowed it to secure the first-to-market right for several consecutive years. Lu Weibing's remarks suggest that Xiaomi has been jointly developing chips with Qualcomm for three years.
In particular, there will be in-depth optimization for the Snapdragon 8 Gen4, significantly enhancing the user experience. In terms of cost, rumors suggest that the procurement price of a single Snapdragon 8 Gen4 chip reaches $240 (approximately RMB 1705), compared to $200 (approximately RMB 1421) for the previous generation Snapdragon 8 Gen3. The chip cost alone has increased by nearly RMB 300. Coupled with other cost increases, I personally estimate that the starting price of top-tier flagship Android phones this year will be approximately RMB 4199.
That being said, following Xiaomi 15, a large number of phones will also use the Snapdragon 8 Gen4 chip. Which model would you choose?
