Underestimated iPhone 16: Upgrades in Chip, Memory, Charging, Battery, and AI

Since Apple released the iPhone 16, many people have complained that besides the innovative camera button and the addition of a Desert Gold color, there seems to be no other significant innovations.

However, when the iPhone 16 went up for pre-sale, it became apparent that many people who had verbally criticized the lack of innovation were actually quick to grab one. The Pro series sold out instantly, even causing the official App Store website to crash due to heavy traffic.

In fact, to be honest, many people have underestimated the iPhone 16, assuming there are no significant innovations. However, Apple has actually upgraded the chip, memory, charging, and battery.

In terms of chips, both the A18 and A18 Pro are brand-new 3nm chips. Compared to the previous generation, the system cache has increased by 17%. Don't underestimate the importance of system cache; it has a significant impact on chip performance.

Furthermore, due to improved manufacturing processes, transistor density has increased, leading to enhanced performance while reducing power consumption. As a result, the iPhone 16 series is more energy-efficient.

In terms of memory, while the previous generation Pro models had 8GB RAM and the standard version had 6GB, all models have now been upgraded to 8GB RAM, significantly improving app performance and stability.

Regarding charging speed, the previous generation offered 20W fast charging for the standard version and 27W for the Pro version. Apple has now added a 15V/3A specification, enabling up to 45W fast charging.

While this may seem paltry compared to domestic phones offering 100W, 150W, or even 200W fast charging, the 45W fast charging on the iPhone 16 is still a notable improvement, offering a 66% increase in charging speed.

Additionally, there have been upgrades to the battery. All models except the Plus version have seen capacity increases, and a new cooling system has been implemented, extending battery life and reducing heat generation during use.

During the launch event, Apple primarily focused on the chip, camera button, and AI features. Memory, charging power, and battery upgrades were not highlighted as they were considered routine upgrades rather than innovative features.

Nonetheless, these upgrades are crucial for enhancing user experience. In this sense, we may have underestimated the iPhone 16, while some people who were aware of these upgrades rushed to purchase the phone, contributing to its popularity.

Objectively speaking, even the most basic iPhone 16 model offers a solid experience. It includes most desired features, except for a high refresh rate display and triple camera setup. For those seeking a more powerful device, the iPhone 16 Pro is undoubtedly the best choice.
