For Huawei phones, what you see now might be the huge attention generated by the Mate XT, but in reality, those who understand know that the most important model of Huawei phones in 2024 is the Mate 70, whose importance far exceeds that of the Mate XT. There are various opinions online about the release date of this phone. Some said it would be delayed to November due to various reasons, but since the phone will definitely be the first to launch with HarmonyOS NEXT, and Huawei executives recently stated that HarmonyOS NEXT would be released by the end of this month, this has led to speculation that the Mate 70 may also be released earlier. However, none of these rumors have been confirmed by Huawei, leaving everyone to continue speculating.
Recently, there have been more leaks related to the Mate 70 online. Although the message does not explicitly state which phone it is referring to, it can be deduced to be the Mate 70 based solely on the mention of "centered 3D facial recognition," as this feature is rarely found in domestic phones other than Huawei's. Of course, the next-generation Honor Magic series will also have 3D facial recognition, but those phones are typically released in January, making the phone referred to in this leak quite certain.
The question now is whether the standard version will also support 3D facial recognition. Personally, I believe this is less likely, as there needs to be some functional differentiation between versions to justify price differences. This is a common practice among manufacturers, and there's nothing more to say about it. The mention of a "quad-curved screen" indicates that the leaker is referring to at least the Pro version, not the standard version, which is consistent with the previous Mate 60 series, even in terms of size.
But the unlocking method is somewhat unique. Currently, domestic phones, whether high-end or low-end, generally rely on under-screen fingerprint recognition for unlocking. However, the Mate 70 introduces a side fingerprint recognition system (with the power button typically placed on the side of the phone). For a major manufacturer like Huawei, making a decision on the functional configuration of an important product is not something that can be done lightly. Any changes in design or functionality would inevitably lead to changes in internal design as well. The side fingerprint recognition is unlikely to be limited to unlocking alone; there are bound to be other innovative uses for it.
The design of the rear camera module appears to be slightly different from the previous generation. While the Mate 60 series featured a perfectly round shape, the Mate 70 has adopted an elliptical design, making it slightly flatter. Of course, there may also be differences in the details. The single periscope lens indicates that the Mate 70 series will still have a triple rear camera setup. The pixel count of the lenses may remain the same, but the sensors and some lens parameters are bound to change. Huawei's high-end phones tend to focus more on refining algorithms rather than stacking pixel counts to improve photography capabilities.
The disadvantage in processors may not be easily overcome in the short term, but Huawei may still be able to improve processor efficiency without changing the manufacturing process. It is estimated that HarmonyOS NEXT will play a significant role in this regard. The elimination of metal materials from the battery cover will slightly reduce the overall thickness and weight of the phone. If the phone has already reached the engineering prototype stage, it indicates that trial production has already begun. As long as there are no issues in subsequent necessary tests, the new phone is essentially set.
Honestly, for the Mate 70 series, what everyone wants to know most is how well the system performs. This will undoubtedly be a key focus of the product launch event.
