According to media predictions, Huawei's flagship Mate70 series in the second half of the year will be the first to ship with the pure HarmonyOS, specifically the HarmonyOS NEXT version, which is no longer compatible with Android apps and can only install pure HarmonyOS apps.
Given this, many believe that the number of pure HarmonyOS apps available at that time will determine the success of HarmonyOS NEXT.
Today's smartphones are more than just phones; they are mobile internet terminals. What supports these terminals are various internet applications like WeChat, Douyin, Taobao, JD.com, QQ, and more.
Huawei has been diligently working to promote the HarmonyOS ecosystem. According to Huawei, the number of pure HarmonyOS apps has already exceeded 1500+, and it is expected to reach 5000+ by the end of the year, basically covering 99% of users' usage time.
Recently, there were rumors that the national app WeChat is already adapting to HarmonyOS, and some users have already received related notifications.
Tencent's customer service department also confirmed that the WeChat team is working closely with Huawei to adapt and communicate technologically for the development of HarmonyOS's native operating system.
In my opinion, as long as Huawei secures WeChat and launches a HarmonyOS version of WeChat, this pure HarmonyOS system will have succeeded more than half the battle.
Firstly, WeChat is currently the only app in China with over 1 billion daily active users, and it is an app that domestic users cannot do without. Without WeChat, many people might not choose HarmonyOS. But with WeChat, it can almost satisfy the usage needs of most people.
Secondly, WeChat is not just an app; it's an ecosystem that integrates content, payments, social networking, and mini-programs.
Social networking, content, and payments are self-explanatory, but the mini-program ecosystem deserves special attention.
Mini-programs are akin to an App Store, allowing numerous applications to provide services without having to develop standalone apps. Currently, the number of WeChat mini-programs has exceeded 3 million.
This means that once HarmonyOS secures WeChat, it essentially brings with it 3 million apps, which can satisfy the needs of most users.
Moreover, for games, which are more challenging to adapt to the ecosystem, WeChat mini-programs also offer solutions. Currently, the number of active users for mini-program games reaches 750 million, accounting for 80.3% of the overall traffic. With WeChat, HarmonyOS will not lack a gaming ecosystem.
It can be said that with WeChat's support, pure HarmonyOS will not lack an ecosystem because it essentially has over 3 million apps. What is there to worry about? Therefore, securing WeChat is crucial. Without WeChat's ecosystem, it is incomplete. With WeChat, the ecosystem is more than half successful.
