This task falls to Qualcomm.

The fourth-generation Snapdragon 8 has officially announced its integration with the Oryon CPU.

As we all know, Qualcomm's latest PC chip, the Snapdragon X Elite, employs the Qualcomm Oryon CPU. At the recently concluded Snapdragon Gaming Tech Awards, Alex Katouzian, the general manager of Qualcomm Technologies' Mobile, Compute, and XR business group, publicly announced that Qualcomm's Oryon CPU will soon land on Snapdragon mobile platforms.

Katouzian didn't explicitly state it, but everyone knows he was referring to the flagship mobile platform of the fourth-generation Snapdragon 8, which is set to be released in October this year.

However, in addition to this significant announcement, Qualcomm also unveiled several noteworthy highlights at the event.

On July 25, the day before ChinaJoy kicked off, Qualcomm held its 2024 Snapdragon Gaming Tech Awards as usual, inviting hardware and software vendors such as NetEase Games, Tencent Games, OPPO, and Red Magic to the scene, with the focus being: games.

Citing industry reports, Qualcomm pointed out that the global gaming market was worth US$184 billion in 2023, with the mobile gaming market accounting for US$90 billion, and the Chinese mobile gaming market reaching US$31 billion. Qualcomm is undoubtedly one of the most important driving forces in the mobile gaming industry, considering how many flagship smartphones worldwide employ the third-generation Snapdragon 8.

According to Qualcomm, this number is as high as 115 models.

On the other hand, Qualcomm's third-generation Snapdragon 8 mobile platform, released at the end of last year, has seen universally recognized advancements in CPU and GPU performance, with AI performance even improving by up to 25 times. This translates to better graphics and higher frame rates in games, unlocking greater potential for AI.

In fact, Qualcomm is more inclined to discuss the hardware and software ecosystem centered on the gaming experience, rather than solely focusing on hardware performance improvements. Qualcomm's own contributions are primarily embodied in Snapdragon Elite Gaming, which brings together cutting-edge gaming technologies.

At the conference, Lv Tangjie, the head of AI technology at NetEase Fuxi, introduced the newly launched AI teammate feature in "Naraka: Bladepoint," where players can command, cooperate with, and even chat with AI teammates. It was specifically mentioned that this feature would leverage the computing power of the Snapdragon platform on the device side.

Meanwhile, Tencent's "Tales of Taris" has taken the lead in adopting Qualcomm's latest AFME 2.0 Super Frame Technology. According to the head of the engine team at Tencent Games' Domestic Distribution Line's Ecosystem Development Department, in the same device and test scenario, there has been a significant improvement and stabilization in frame rates, along with lower power consumption.

Furthermore, it's not just about mobile games. Last year, Qualcomm made "gaming on the go" a highlight, and this year, one of the key focuses is on PC gaming. At the event, Qualcomm not only announced that there are currently 22 Snapdragon X Windows 11 AI+ PCs available on the market, but also that several PC games are now supporting the Snapdragon X Elite platform, which will be showcased at the ChinaJoy Snapdragon booth.

For mobile phone manufacturers, Qualcomm is also offering solutions like Snapdragon Adaptive Game Quality technology, which helps the operating system better understand the real-time status of the phone to make more appropriate performance adjustments. Representatives from invited mobile phone manufacturers, including Red Magic and OPPO, also mentioned the advantages of the Snapdragon platform in mobile gaming.

Additionally, Red Magic took the opportunity to preview its upcoming Red Magic Tablet (Naked Eye) 3D Explorer Edition and the Red Magic Gaming Tablet powered by the third-generation Snapdragon 8.

OPPO introduced the OnePlus Ace 3 Pro, highlighting its "black technology" that enables 120 frames per second on the Android game Genshin Impact. They also teased that OnePlus will achieve:

120 frames per second on a certain "large-scale 3D turn-based mobile game."

Without needing to say it, everyone likely knows this game, especially given the viral popularity of Honkai: Star Rail.

This year's ChinaJoy Snapdragon-themed pavilion remains a "gathering of heroes," featuring booths from ten major brands, over 200 terminal products, and more than 40 technology experiences and demonstrations.

Of course, as mentioned at the beginning of the article, the One More Thing is that the fourth-generation Snapdragon, set to adopt PC-level architecture this year, is confirmed to be extremely significant for the entire mobile phone industry.
