Joint venture auto companies go all out for the 618, throwing discounts overboard to ease the new energy anxiety

Should it be blamed on BYD?

E-commerce shopping festivals such as "618" and "Double 11" are important nodes for many consumers to stock up on household necessities. After the events, various companies will rush to announce their "battle reports" to showcase the popularity of their brands.

Although cars are considered bulk consumer goods, they have also become regular guests at shopping festivals in recent years. Perhaps due to the attractive prices of several new models released by BYD this year, which stimulated the market, there were significantly more auto companies promoting sales during this year's "618" period compared to previous years. Besides domestic brands like Lixiang, Jeke, Aion, Wuling, Xiaopeng, and Lepin, joint venture brands like FAW-Volkswagen, GAC Toyota, SAIC Volkswagen, and Changan Ford also joined the fray, and even luxury brands like BMW and Cadillac were present.

Since the Chinese New Year holiday this year, BYD fired the first shot in the "automotive market price war." Not only traditional luxury and joint venture brands with slower transitions, but even other domestic brands had to face the huge obstacle of BYD if they wanted to capture a share of the new energy market.

For joint venture auto companies, they have obvious product deficiencies in their entry-level products but are unable to change them significantly. Ultimately, the only way out for them is "price wars." Of course, even more fierce and intense price wars.

"A drop of one or two ten thousand isn't a reduction, and three or four ten thousand isn't too much." The price competition among joint venture auto companies has reached a feverish pitch.

Prices are plummeting, with no end in sight.

Although it's unclear what strong connection "618" has with Japanese brands, they were the first to offer steep discounts on their models.

The Corolla under FAW Toyota offers a limited-time comprehensive discount of 43,000 yuan, with a starting price of less than 80,000 yuan. The Corolla Levin offers a limited-time discount of 30,000 yuan.

The starting prices of the Highlander Hybrid and Camry Hybrid under GAC Toyota are 217,800 yuan and 149,800 yuan, respectively, representing discounts of 32,000 yuan and 22,000 yuan compared to the guidance prices.

The ZR-V petrol version under GAC Honda offers a limited-time discount of around 60,000 yuan, with a starting price of only 99,800 yuan, but only 618 units are available nationwide.

The new Sylphy Enjoy Edition from Dongfeng Nissan is priced at 99,800 yuan for a limited time, while the classic Sylphy's terminal price is even less than 70,000 yuan.

Changan Mazda has also collaborated with recent football events, offering a maximum discount of 30,000 yuan for the Mazda CX-50.
