Spy photos of Xiaomi's second automotive product have been revealed. As speculated in the industry, the second model is an SUV, but it's not a conventional SUV type. Judging by the outline of the model, it's closer to a performance SUV product resembling the Ferrari Purosangue. The spy photos don't reveal much information, but some distinguishable features include the frameless rearview mirror, Hesai LiDAR, and yellow brake calipers.
The internal code name for this vehicle is MX11, while the previous Xiaomi SU7's internal code name was MS11. Both vehicles belong to the same period of development. The vehicle manufacturing platforms also originate from the Modena platform architecture. The design work for MX11 was basically completed around July last year, so we can see the MX11 C-sample test car shortly after the Xiaomi SU7 was released half a year ago. The market timing for this vehicle is likely to be unveiled at the end of this year and launched in the first half of next year.
If we look at the complete timeline from development, unveiling, to market launch, it may be about a year apart from the Xiaomi SU7. So, what different product points will the Xiaomi MX11 model bring after a year?
How will Xiaomi's SUV be built?
First, let's clarify Xiaomi MX11's product positioning. It belongs to the same period of development as the Xiaomi SU7, with the same vehicle manufacturing platform, and it will still be positioned as a medium to large-sized product. As an SUV model, it has a larger premium space than a sedan, just like the relationship between Tesla's Model 3 and Model Y. In terms of pricing, it's very likely that the price of Xiaomi MX11 will be higher than Xiaomi SU7.
In simple terms, Xiaomi's SUV will not be a strictly cost-oriented product, so incorporating some new technology configurations into the vehicle is not a problem. The first two models, one sedan and one SUV, are in two major market segments, establishing their own product benchmarks, which is reasonable.
Refer to the current core hardware and technology configurations of Xiaomi SU7, including the V6 and V6s high-power drive motors, 9100t super large die-casting equipment, CTB battery technology, 800V high-voltage system, etc. These are some of the technical points and configurations that have appeared on the Xiaomi SU7 model.
So, for this SUV model, the only new technology left is the new motor group planned for 2025. Specifically, it's the V8s motor with a maximum speed of 27,200 rpm. This motor was only announced at the launch but is not equipped on any version of the current Xiaomi SU7. Xiaomi's self-developed V8s motor has a maximum horsepower of 578, a maximum power of 425 kW, and a maximum torque of 635 Nm. Moreover, the motor's peak efficiency reaches 98.11%, which means it can efficiently convert energy during operation, reducing energy loss, achieving high-efficiency output while saving power.
Compared to the Huawei Drive ONE motor currently equipped on the ZEEKR S7 (with a speed of 25,000 rpm but locked at 3,000 rpm due to limitations, actually achieving only 22,000 rpm), the Xiaomi V8s motor has a significant advantage.
