At the end of August this year, Xpeng launched the MONA M03, followed by the P7+ in early November. Both models achieved a significant order volume of over 30,000 units within 48 hours of their respective launches. Currently, addressing the delivery of these two new models is the top priority for Xpeng's factories.
We have learned that Xpeng's Guangzhou Huangpu factory has initiated double shifts this week, with day shifts running from approximately 7:30 to 19:00 and night shifts from 19:30 to around 7:00 the next morning, essentially achieving round-the-clock production.
The new models are the primary reason for initiating double shifts at the Huangpu factory. Currently, the factory produces the Xpeng X9, G9, and P7+. The P7+, which was launched last week, has become the main production model. However, the factory's production capacity is still ramping up, with daily production ranging between 400 and 500 units this week, leaving room for further growth.
The Zhaoqing factory also began double shifts in early November, with daily production gradually increasing from less than 500 units last week to over 600 units yesterday (November 13). Starting next week, daily production will exceed 700 units, approaching the factory's peak capacity.
As double shifts become the norm, the delivery speed of Xpeng's two new models will improve.
The Zhaoqing factory is responsible for producing two models: the Xpeng P7i and the MONA M03, which was launched on August 27 this year. Due to the popularity of the MONA M03, much of the factory's capacity has been dedicated to this new model. We understand that approximately 90% of the Zhaoqing factory's capacity is currently devoted to producing the MONA M03.
After initiating double shifts, the pace at the Zhaoqing factory has eased considerably. The current line speed has returned to around 35JPH (representing 35 vehicles produced per hour, same for the rest), compared to over 40JPH during single shifts, which exceeded the reasonable line speed set by most vehicle assembly factories, resulting in overload for both personnel and equipment.
However, fulfilling the sudden influx of MONA M03 orders will take some time. A source close to Xpeng's manufacturing system revealed that internally, Xpeng expects to fulfill these orders by the Spring Festival.
Compared to the Huangpu factory, the Zhaoqing factory took longer to ramp up its production capacity. The primary reason is the unexpectedly large order volume for the MONA M03, which surpassed everyone's expectations. Suppliers needed more time to prepare, and the Zhaoqing factory invested significant time in recruiting additional manpower.
After the MONA M03's launch, the delivery lead time has extended to over two months. A source close to Xpeng's user operations system informed us that there has been a surge in customer service calls, most of which are from customers inquiring about or urging delivery status.
A source close to Xpeng's sales system revealed that new orders for the MONA M03 have stabilized, with the extended delivery time being a significant factor. Although Xpeng offers daily updates to customers,
Maintaining the popularity of bestsellers poses a test for Xpeng.
