The 2025 Government Work Report advocates integrating 'deep-sea technology' into the key development areas of emerging industries, vigorously fostering the marine economy, and establishing a national marine economic development demonstration zone. Notably, deep-sea technology is highlighted as a pivotal driver anticipated to serve as a significant engine for future economic growth.
According to the 2024 China Marine Economy Statistics Bulletin, the national marine gross domestic product (GDP) reached 10.54 trillion yuan, with notable growth rates exceeding 9% observed in marine shipbuilding, marine power, and marine engineering equipment. As an emerging industry's core driver, the market potential of deep-sea technology is increasingly evident.
Qichacha data indicates a steady annual increase in the number of registered enterprises related to China's deep-sea economy over the past decade. As of March 24, 2025, 7,374 such enterprises have been registered. Regarding existing enterprises, there are 167,000 deep-sea economy-related enterprises in China, with over 58% established within the last three years. In terms of industry, more than 30% of these enterprises fall under the scientific research and technology service sector.
1. Registration Volume Perspective: Over 7,000 Enterprises Registered This Year
Qichacha data reveals a year-on-year increase in the number of registered enterprises related to China's deep-sea economy, particularly in 2020, when the annual registration volume surged by 102.1% to 16,900, marking the decade's peak growth rate. In 2023, China cumulatively registered 41,500 deep-sea economy-related enterprises, reaching the decade's highest registration volume. As of March 24, 2025, 7,374 such enterprises have been registered.
2. Establishment Duration Perspective: 58.5% of Enterprises Established Within Three Years
Qichacha data shows that among the 167,000 existing deep-sea economy-related enterprises in China, the largest proportion (36.6%) were established within 1-3 years, followed by those established within one year (21.9%). Together, enterprises established within three years account for 58.5% of the total.
3. Industry Distribution Perspective: Over 30% Belong to the Scientific Research and Technology Service Industry
Qichacha data highlights that the scientific research and technology service industry hosts the largest number of deep-sea economy-related enterprises in China, with 54,800 enterprises, comprising 32.8% of the total. The wholesale and retail industry follows with 34,600 enterprises (20.7%). Additionally, the construction industry hosts 20,800 enterprises (12.5%), predominantly involved in marine engineering and construction.
