Recently, the AI toy industry has once again been buoyed by significant developments.
On November 19, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology hosted a press conference. Gong Xian, Deputy Director of the General Office at the Ministry, stated during the event that to foster the orderly growth of the toy industry and protect children's physical and mental well-being, the ministry has taken the initiative to accelerate the revision and enhancement of four mandatory national standards for toy safety: GB6675.1 to GB6675.4. These updates were recently approved and issued by the State Administration for Market Regulation (Standardization Administration), addressing emerging challenges in the toy industry.
To steer the AI toy industry towards high-quality development, He Yaqiong disclosed that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, in collaboration with relevant departments, will formulate and roll out an implementation plan aimed at aligning consumer goods supply and demand. This initiative will guide toy manufacturers in leveraging AI technology to generate new market demands.
With the swift advancement of artificial intelligence and the increasing maturity of domestic AI large model technologies, AI toys have emerged as a burgeoning trend. Data from JD.com indicates that in the first half of 2025, the sales volume of AI toy products surged sixfold month-on-month, with a year-on-year growth rate exceeding 200%.
So, what sets AI toys apart from traditional toys?
Firstly, AI toys boast superior intelligent interactivity. Traditional toys typically offer limited functions and are mostly static, whereas AI toys incorporate advanced voice recognition and natural language processing technologies. This enables them to comprehend children's speech and respond, providing a richer and more engaging companionship experience.
Secondly, AI toys are upgradable and customizable. Once purchased, traditional toys generally have fixed functions and gameplay. In contrast, AI toys can continuously enhance their features, content, and interaction methods through software updates, and can also be tailored to individual user preferences.
Furthermore, AI toys excel in educational value. Compared to traditional toys, they can deliver targeted educational content based on a child's age and learning progress, aiding in the cultivation of various skills.
Since their emergence in 2024, the number of companies involved in AI toys has skyrocketed. According to Tianyancha data, the number of toy-related company registrations has been on the rise annually over the past five years. Analysts from Zhongshang Industry Research Institute project that the market size of AI toys in China will reach 29 billion yuan by 2025 and further escalate to 85 billion yuan by 2030.
A research report by Northeast Securities highlights that domestic AI toys enjoy significant advantages in manufacturing costs, research and development cycles, iteration speeds, and supply chain integrity. Combined with the proactive strategies of domestic manufacturers in original IP development and international licensing, the integration of software and hardware is poised to create globally influential blockbuster products, further solidifying China's competitive edge in the global AI toy industry.
