Alibaba Bags Two Consecutive Major AI Contracts Following Jack Ma's Return

In recent years, Jack Ma has maintained a low profile, spending much of his time overseas rather than in China. Media reports frequently place him abroad, but 2025 marked his official return.

In February of that year, he was spotted wearing Alibaba's iconic black vest in Hangzhou's Xixi Park, and a significant milestone came with his participation in a high-level private enterprise conference.

As a towering figure in China's internet industry, Jack Ma's return has rippled through the global technology market, igniting new opportunities.

Recently, Alibaba has secured two consecutive major AI contracts, with a third potentially on the horizon.

The first significant contract is with Apple, who integrated AI into iOS 18 last year but collaborated with OpenAI, limiting its reach in China.

Recognizing AI as a crucial direction, Apple sought a local Chinese partner and chose Alibaba's Tongyi Qianwen.

The second major contract is with BMW, who will incorporate Alibaba's Tongyi large model into its new-generation series of models in the Chinese market, integrating Alibaba's AI large language model into their intelligent cockpits.

Reports also indicate that Tesla is in negotiations with Alibaba, potentially leading to another contract for Alibaba.

Why Alibaba? The answer lies in its pioneering efforts in deploying large AI models. Launched in April 2023, Tongyi Qianwen has been continuously open-sourced and improved.

Earlier this year, Alibaba unveiled its MoE model Qwen2.5-Max, which performed competitively with GPT-4 and Deepseek in various authoritative tests.

Moreover, Alibaba stands as one of China's top internet enterprises, renowned for its superior service capabilities and extensive experience.

As China's largest e-commerce enterprise, Alibaba effortlessly handles the massive data volume during the annual Double 11 shopping festival, a testament to its robust capabilities.

Both Apple and BMW chose Alibaba due to its emphasis on stability and reliability.

Looking ahead, more enterprises are expected to partner with Alibaba, leveraging its unparalleled data capabilities and extensive user shopping and payment data, which represent Alibaba's distinct advantages.
