Recently, Fourier Intelligence secured strategic investment from a listed company, amounting to no more than 300 million yuan. This news was disclosed by the listed company Runyang Technology (300920).

According to the announcement, Fourier's pre-investment valuation stands at 8 billion yuan, categorizing it as a unicorn company.

Fourier is a general-purpose robotics firm.

Let's explore why Runyang Technology is making such a bold move into cross-border investment.

Founded in 2015, Fourier initially specialized in the field of rehabilitation robots and has recently ventured into the humanoid robot sector. In 2023, Fourier introduced a series of products, including the general-purpose humanoid robots GR-1, GR-Pro, and GR-1 Lite, among others. Notably, GR-1 boasts a sleek design, exceptional mobility, and has achieved mass production and delivery.

Fourier's founder, Gu Jie, graduated from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He began developing rehabilitation robots in 2009 and founded Jinghe Robotics in Shanghai in 2012. The Flexbot developed by the company marked a significant innovation in the rehabilitation robot industry.

In recent years, Fourier has entered the 100 billion yuan general-purpose robotics market and commenced the development of general-purpose humanoid robots. From designing the overall mechanical structure to giving the robots an elegant appearance, to enabling robots to learn autonomously through AI algorithms, Fourier has undertaken numerous optimizations and upgrades.

In terms of financing, Fourier has completed several rounds of funding, attracting investments from top domestic and international institutions such as SoftBank Vision Fund 2, Prosperity7 Ventures (a venture capital fund under Saudi Aramco), Vision Capital, and IDG Capital. The cumulative funding has reached nearly 1 billion yuan.

Currently, Fourier Intelligence has achieved notable success.

In the medical rehabilitation field, through the "Intelligent Rehabilitation Port" product matrix, it provides rehabilitation robots and comprehensive solutions to over 2,000 customers in more than 40 countries and regions worldwide.

Official data reveals that its products have entered over 3,000 terminal hospitals globally, with nearly 300 department cases covering prefecture-level cities, communities, and township health centers across the nation, serving over one million patients.

Fourier operates in the general-purpose robotics industry. Initially, due to technological constraints, robots had limited functions and were primarily used in industrial fields for repetitive and hazardous tasks, with narrow application scenarios. However, with the advancement of sensors, algorithms, artificial intelligence, and other technologies, robots have gradually expanded into service, medical, and other sectors.

Currently, the global general-purpose robotics market is continually expanding, and the humanoid robot industry is in a phase of rapid growth. According to calculations by Stratistics Market Research Consulting, the global market size of the humanoid robot industry was approximately $1.4 billion in 2022 and is anticipated to surge to $70.4 billion by 2030, with a compound annual growth rate of roughly 63% from 2022 to 2030.

In China, the market size is projected to reach 1.05 billion yuan by 2030, with a compound annual growth rate expected to hit 59%.

Regarding the competitive landscape, domestic humanoid robot enterprises primarily include UBTECH, Unitree Robotics, Zhiyuan Robotics, among others. Notably, UBTECH has achieved mass production and entered the training of automobile factories such as Dongfeng Liuzhou Automobile and Geely Automobile. It holds over 2,100 patents related to robots and artificial intelligence in full-stack technology, ranking first globally in the number of valid patents for humanoid robots.

Compared to competitors, one of Fourier's key differentiators lies in its full-stack robot technology research and development, as well as its business layout in medical rehabilitation and humanoid robots.

Technologically, it is overcoming the bottleneck of core component capabilities, with a research and development team spanning areas such as mechatronics, software algorithms, and engineering testing. In terms of business layout, it not only delves deeply into the field of medical rehabilitation but also continuously innovates in the humanoid robot sector, launching products like GR-1 and GR-2 to meet the needs of diverse industries.

Data sources include corporate financial reports, third-party agency reports, and industry research.

New technologies present numerous opportunities for general-purpose robots. Large artificial intelligence models and 5G communication technology enable robots to comprehend complex instructions, facilitate data interaction, and remote control; furthermore, the application of new materials can reduce the weight of robots, enhance their strength, and extend their service life.

As a listed company, why is Runyang Technology investing in Fourier?

The primary reason is related business cooperation.

As a developer and manufacturer of polyolefin foam materials, Runyang Technology's core product is electronically irradiated cross-linked polyethylene (IXPE), with application scenarios encompassing the electronics industry, healthcare, maternal and child products, and other fields.

By investing in Fourier, Runyang Technology aims to expand the application scenarios of foam materials in robots. Fourier's humanoid robots and intelligent rehabilitation solutions have a demand for new materials, both in the manufacture of the robots themselves and in rehabilitation aids.

Moreover, Runyang Technology's performance has been under pressure in recent years, with revenue in the first quarter of 2025 remaining flat year-on-year and net profit attributable to shareholders of the parent company shrinking by 63% year-on-year. However, Fourier's intelligent products have found applications in medical rehabilitation, academic research, and other scenarios. Runyang Technology can leverage Fourier's market channels and customer resources to promote its own material products.
