As you may know, Huawei's most anticipated upcoming phone is not the highly anticipated Mate 70 series, but the triple-folding screen phone whose product name has not yet been officially revealed. However, not knowing the name does not mean we cannot see the actual device. Nevertheless, seeing the real device this time feels oddly coincidental. Yu Chengdong previously mentioned that Huawei's upcoming phone is something that competitors want but cannot achieve (although he did not explicitly state what product it was, the implication was clear), suggesting that designing this product would be so challenging that competitors would retreat in the face of difficulty.
Who would have thought that just a few days later, Yu Chengdong not only personally tried out the phone but was also photographed doing so, and the person who took the photo was using a Mate X5. It's unclear if this is a hint that the device also belongs to the Mate series. Some netizens are joking that Yu Chengdong has done a poor job of keeping the unreleased product confidential, as it was easily photographed. However, if you zoom in on the photo, you can still see some details.
As can be seen, when unfolded, the device has three independently usable areas, meaning it can display three different contents simultaneously. The leftmost area shows WeChat, while the middle and rightmost areas are not clearly visible. In fact, foldable screens have high requirements for application compatibility. Taking the device in Yu Chengdong's hand as an example, the contents being operated and displayed in the three areas cannot influence each other. If only one fold is made, the other two screens will merge into one. However, if another fold is made, questions arise about whether the displayed content can immediately adapt to the display area.
Although it's difficult to tell from the photo whether the device operates smoothly, the fact that Yu Chengdong is using it indicates that its development is complete and ready for production. If so, its official release should not be far off. Some online reports even claim that it could be released as soon as the end of this month.
Another observation from the photo is that the unfolded screen size of this triple-folding device is quite large. Like most existing foldable screen phones, it may be challenging to operate solely with gestures. Therefore, we can see what appears to be a stylus holder on the side of the device, recessed and likely attached magnetically, suggesting that this device may have specialized usage scenarios.
Honestly, I personally believe this device is more like a mass-produced technology demonstration platform. With the support of HarmonyOS, it enables the use of some PC-level applications with the characteristics of a mobile device. If this is indeed the case, it also implies that the development of the HarmonyOS PC version has progressed to a certain extent, with each link in the entire HarmonyOS ecosystem tightly connected.
Regarding the price, online reports indicate that initial supplies will be limited, making snatching up the device a necessity. Furthermore, the price is rumored to reach a new high (potentially exceeding 15,000 yuan). If this is the case, scalpers will undoubtedly be thrilled. Personally, I predict that if you want to buy from a scalper, you'll need at least 20,000 yuan.
