Although the Xiaomi 15 Ultra won't be released until early 2025, as the launch of the Xiaomi 15 series approaches, there has been an increasing amount of leaked information about the Xiaomi 15 Ultra.
Firstly, Apple's iPhone has consistently led the industry in imaging capabilities. Despite challenges from Android phones, in some areas, such as video recording, the iPhone's position remains solid. Some professionals still consider the iPhone's video recording performance to be unparalleled. However, according to Mingmei Infinite, Xiaomi's flagship next year, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, may challenge the iPhone in video recording performance.
Recently, foreign media reported that the Xiaomi 15 Ultra has appeared in the IMEI database with the Chinese version code 25010PN30C. It is expected to be launched domestically first, followed by international releases.
Based on the leaked code, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra is anticipated to be released around February 2025, roughly the same time as the Xiaomi 14 Ultra.
Moreover, although there is still some time before the Xiaomi 15 Ultra's release, speculations about it have taken shape. The screen will maintain the design of an equally curved display, which was well-received in the Xiaomi 14 series for its improved grip and visual appeal.
Regarding imaging, a blogger recently revealed the camera configuration of Xiaomi's next high-end flagship, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra.
It is reported that during the testing phase, the device demonstrated two imaging solutions, one of which is particularly noteworthy: it features a quad-camera system with a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto lens equipped with a Samsung ISOCELL HP9 sensor.
This lens boasts a longer physical focal length, supporting super telephoto capabilities, and its unique centered large circular design is a highlight of the device's appearance.
The Samsung ISOCELL HP9 has a large 1/1.4-inch sensor with 200 million pixels, offering extreme detail capture capabilities. Additionally, the sensor supports 4x4 pixel binning technology, converting to an equivalent of 12 million pixels with a single pixel size of 2.24μm, enabling clear and bright images even in low-light conditions.
Furthermore, the Samsung HP9 sensor employs high-refractive-index microlens technology and new materials to enhance light sensitivity. Compared to its predecessor, the HP9 boasts a 12% increase in sensitivity and a 10% improvement in autofocus contrast performance, resulting in more vibrant colors and precise focusing.
In terms of zoom capabilities, the HP9 also excels. Its built-in remosaic algorithm supports 2x or 4x sensor-based zoom modes. When paired with a 3x telephoto module, it effortlessly achieves up to 12x zoom while maintaining sharp image quality.
In terms of other hardware specifications, this model may feature a dual-layer OLED screen with 2K resolution, potentially powered by Qualcomm's latest flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen4 processor, up to 24GB of RAM, and a large-capacity battery of approximately 6000mAh. It is also expected to support single-point ultrasonic in-display fingerprint recognition.
In conclusion, based on the above information, in addition to routine iterations and upgrades, as well as predictable collaborations with Leica and the inclusion of the Pengpai OS 2.0, the most significant challenge for the new device will be reducing weight. While the four-camera setup with a large sensor may not significantly add to the weight and is a relatively mature solution, considering that the Xiaomi 14U ceramic model already weighs 229.5g, and with the inclusion of a larger battery (potentially exceeding 6000mAh), there is a high probability that the overall weight of the Xiaomi 15 Ultra will exceed 230g. However, Lei Jun could also draw inspiration from the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra by eliminating the titanium version of the 15U and replacing it with a carbon fiber version, balancing premium aesthetics with practicality.
Regardless, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra once again demonstrates Xiaomi's commitment to pushing the boundaries in imaging. Will its video recording performance surpass that of the iPhone? Time will tell.
