Introduction
"As long as it fills the stomach, the method doesn't matter."
"The order situation has indeed surpassed our expectations. If you're in urgent need of a car, domestic new energy vehicles are all great options. You might want to consider the upcoming Xpeng G7."
Last week, Xiaomi YU7 shook the entire Chinese automotive industry. 200,000 orders were placed in 3 minutes, 289,000 in 1 hour, and 240,000 were locked in within 18 hours...
Such astonishing results are truly unprecedented.
During the live broadcast on Wednesday, Lei Jun began with a humble remark. You could see it as modesty, reassuring competitors, or even image-building. Regardless, he did indeed share some of Xiaomi YU7's overwhelming traffic and attention with its so-called "direct competitors".
So, can Xpeng G7 handle this?
Judging from last night's launch event, this mid-sized pure electric SUV, designated by Lei Jun as "family-oriented and smart," did not disappoint and successfully accomplished the task of "Xiaomi YU7 eats the meat, while I sip the soup behind it".
Looking back at the first half of the year, Xpeng achieved impressive delivery results, surpassing the 190,000-unit mark from January to June, with monthly deliveries continuously breaking the 30,000-unit threshold.
However, deeper analysis reveals that this was mainly supported by the MONA M03 and P7+, two pure electric sedans priced below 200,000 yuan.
It is precisely due to this background that, to elevate the brand and avoid falling into the trap of low-end products and slim margins, it was necessary to establish a solid foothold in the price range above 200,000 yuan.
Since its inception, Xpeng G7 has shouldered a similar mission.
The final announced prices include three versions: the 602 Long Range Max version priced at 195,800 yuan, the 702 Ultra Long Range Max version at 205,800 yuan, and the 702 Ultra Long Range Ultra version at 225,800 yuan. Coupled with numerous benefits, the pricing can be considered very sincere.
Simultaneously, it completely avoids direct competition with Xiaomi YU7, creating a staggered market position. Additionally, it fills the gap between the 2025 Xpeng G6 and G9 to a certain extent.
Regarding the comprehensive product strength of Xpeng G7, if I had to summarize it with two keywords, my answer would be: family use + intelligence.
First, in this mid-sized pure electric SUV, one can observe the meticulous craftsmanship put into the riding and driving space and comfort experience, especially the four seats, which offer complete equality. The abundant storage space throughout the vehicle is also a significant highlight.
The overall feeling it gives is more like a "well-rounded car" with no shortcomings. The entire lineup featuring 800V and equipped with 5C power batteries ensures the stability of Xpeng G7's foundation.
Compared horizontally with Tesla Model Y, an inevitable competitor in this segment, it also holds a significant lead.
Second, it's about intelligence. The Max version's smart cockpit and intelligent driving chips are powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 and two NVIDIA Orin-X chips, respectively, which are still the mainstream hardware levels in the industry.
The Ultra version, priced at 225,800 yuan, replaces these two components with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 9295 and three Xpeng-developed Turing AI chips, achieving a combined computing power of 2250 TOPS.
Yes, you heard it right, a mid-sized pure electric SUV in the 200,000 yuan range with a combined computing power exceeding 2000 TOPS.
Undoubtedly, this is destined to be the most attractive aspect of Xpeng G7 and the biggest "killer app" to attract potential customers. Although at this stage, the exact quantifiable difference between the Ultra version and the Max version in terms of actual experience is still unclear, the mere 20,000 yuan price difference for a highly anticipated "future" is considered a very good deal.
"Family use + intelligence" is also the differentiation between Xpeng G7 and Xiaomi YU7.
If the latter focuses on appearance and handling, then the protagonist of today's article has completely taken a different path. Perhaps, in He Xiaopeng's business philosophy, this is the only way to avoid Lei Jun's sharp edge and do their utmost to receive the overflow orders, achieving "Xiaomi YU7 eats the meat, while Xpeng G7 sips the soup".
After last night's launch event, a small-scale exclusive interview was also conducted. Throughout the interview, He Xiaopeng's mood was quite pleasant, and he answered many questions of concern to everyone.
First, regarding terminal feedback:
"The performance of Xpeng G7 is actually very good, but because the order figures for Xiaomi YU7 in three minutes were too terrifying, it might seem like we're not doing as well, but it doesn't hinder its popularity."
Indeed, with a super-phenomenal competitor in the mix, no matter how hard the protagonist of today's article tries, it seems somewhat overshadowed.
However, from He Xiaopeng's answer, a great deal of confidence can still be felt. Over 10,000 orders were placed in just 9 minutes, which is the interim results sheet submitted by Xpeng G7.
Returning to rationality, it is commendable.
Second, regarding the profit margin of the model:
Frankly speaking, considering the pricing of Xpeng G7, ranging from 195,800 yuan to 225,800 yuan, this new force in car manufacturing still focuses on "large volume, satisfaction, and exceeding expectations." The doubts derived from this mainly center on whether it can really make money.
In He Xiaopeng's view, everyone need not worry, because starting from the second-quarter financial report, everyone will see increasingly positive signals. As for the protagonist of today's article, he also reassured everyone, "The pricing of G7 will not affect the company's goal of increasing gross margins."
In other words, it is definitely profitable.
Third, regarding systematic capabilities:
"Over the past three years, we have undergone a transformative change, and we will enter a period of rapid development after the fourth quarter of this year. The next step is to improve four capabilities: the first is more comprehensive technical capabilities, the second is organizational capabilities, the third is commercialization capabilities, and the fourth is global comprehensive capabilities."
With a dozen words, He Xiaopeng undoubtedly summed up the past 1000-plus days. It is certain that after experiencing ups and downs, under his decisive leadership, Xpeng has emerged from the quagmire and entered a fast lane of healthy development.
This is indeed something to be congratulated.
But rationally and objectively speaking, there are still many challenges to be faced in the future, and it is definitely not a time to be complacent. For example, whether G7 can carve out a path behind Xiaomi YU7 is uncertain, and we still need to wait for a stable monthly sales volume.
In my opinion, considering the internal competition with siblings G6 and G9, as well as the fierce competition in the segment market, including the sales volumes of other domestic mid-sized pure electric SUVs in the same class, achieving around 5,000 units in the early stages would already be considered a good performance.
Of course, there is also a suspense, which is the proportion of the highly promoted Ultra version. How much can it actually achieve?
It is also very important for Xpeng...
