Apple's iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are now on sale.
However, these two models have faced different fates. The iPhone 18 Pro's price dropped immediately upon release, with even scalpers refusing to buy it due to low demand. In contrast, the iPhone 18 Pro Max has seen scalpers raising prices, with many buyers opting for it.
The official price of the iPhone 18 Pro is 1,000 yuan cheaper than the iPhone 18 Pro Max. When considering the scalpers' price hikes, the actual price difference between the two models with the same storage capacity exceeds 1,000 yuan.
So, the question arises: Why do people prefer to buy the iPhone 18 Pro Max instead of the cheaper iPhone 18 Pro?
It's important to note that the performance of the two models in this year's iPhone 18 Pro series is identical. The chips, screens, camera CIS, charging capabilities, materials, and other configurations are all the same, with no differences whatsoever.
So, what are the differences between these two models that lead some people to buy the more expensive one instead of the cheaper one?
This year, there are only two differences between the two models.
One difference is screen size. The iPhone 18 Pro has a 6.3-inch screen, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max has a 6.9-inch screen, which is 0.6 inches larger. Due to the larger screen, more materials are used, making the iPhone 18 Pro Max weigh 249 grams, truly a 'heavy half-pound.'
In contrast, the iPhone 18 Pro is lighter, weighing 211 grams, which is 38 grams less. Don't underestimate these 38 grams; they can be clearly felt when holding the phone. The 'heavy half-pound' effect makes it tiring to hold the phone with one hand for extended periods.
The second difference is battery size.
The battery capacity of the iPhone 18 Pro Max (China version) reaches 5,391mAh, making it the phone with the largest battery in Apple's history. It may also be the phone with the longest battery life in Apple's history.
In contrast, the iPhone 18 Pro has a 4,056mAh battery, a difference of about 33%, resulting in a significant difference in battery life.
One model claims a video playback time of 43 hours, while the other claims 34 hours, a difference of 9 hours, which translates to about a 26% longer battery life.
The reason for the significantly larger battery is, of course, the larger screen, which provides more internal space for a bigger battery.
The additional 38 grams of weight is mainly due to the larger screen and battery.
So, why are so many people willing to spend an extra 1,000 yuan to buy the Max? I believe most people are drawn to the larger screen and bigger battery. After all, Apple phones have never been known for their durability, and a larger battery means longer battery life and less frequent charging.
As for the screen size, the difference between 6.3 and 6.9 inches isn't particularly significant. However, some people prefer to buy the more expensive option to showcase their status, opting for the larger, heavier, top-tier model instead of the cheaper one. Since they're already spending 10,000 yuan, an additional 1,000 yuan isn't that important.
