Today, car blogger @SunShaojun09 has disclosed that FAW-Toyota's Beijing headquarters will relocate to its Tianjin plant, offering employees who decline to relocate a generous severance package of up to N+7.
Additionally, the blogger mentioned that Toyota intends to consolidate several of its top-selling models, including the Corolla and Levin, as well as the Camry and Asia Dragon. "Certain beloved classic models may soon become relics of the past."
Earlier this year, in July, rumors circulated that "FAW-Toyota was planning to shut down its Beijing sales headquarters and relocate to Tianjin." When queried by the media in late November, Toyota responded, "There are still uncertainties regarding the headquarters relocation, and we are actively engaging with both our employees and the government."
Currently, Toyota's manufacturing operations in China are managed through joint ventures with FAW-Toyota and GAC Toyota, both established in collaboration with FAW and GAC, respectively. In 2023, Toyota produced 1.75 million vehicles in China.
Furthermore, yesterday, news emerged that Toyota has decided to establish a new electric vehicle production facility in Shanghai, primarily dedicated to its luxury brand "Lexus" (Lexus sold approximately 180,000 vehicles in China in 2023). This marks the first time Toyota will construct and operate a plant independently in China, deviating from its previous joint venture models.
Multiple informed sources have revealed that Toyota has identified a site within Shanghai for this new plant, which is projected to commence operations around 2027.
