According to Quick Tech news on November 28, media reports indicate that the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in the United States has initiated an antitrust investigation into Microsoft, with the scope of the investigation ranging from cloud computing and software licensing to cybersecurity products and artificial intelligence (AI) products.
An informed source revealed that after over a year of informal interviews with Microsoft's competitors and business partners, antitrust enforcement agencies have drafted a detailed request compelling Microsoft to provide information.
Currently, the investigation focuses on Microsoft's bundling of its popular office productivity and security software with cloud products.
It is reported that the Federal Trade Commission's antitrust lawyers will meet with Microsoft's competitors next week to gather more information about the company's business practices.
It is worth mentioning that in June this year, the European Commission issued a statement stating that the agency preliminarily believes that Microsoft has violated EU antitrust rules.
The statement said that the European Commission had informed Microsoft that it had preliminarily determined that Microsoft's bundling of its communication and collaboration product Teams with applications included in its enterprise suites Office365 and Microsoft365 violated EU antitrust rules.
In July 2023, multiple European companies filed complaints with the European Commission, requesting an investigation into Microsoft's communication and collaboration product Teams.
