Huawei stands out as the only smartphone manufacturer daring to launch its premium device just ahead of Apple's annual iPhone release. Today, the Mate XTs has officially hit the market. Initial rumors suggested a minor update, but the press conference revealed a narrative slightly skewed by online speculation. The upgrade to the CPU chip alone negates the term 'minor update.' However, in the broader context of features and specifications, the Mate XTs does not qualify as a full-fledged generational leap. Viewers of today's press conference would have noticed the openness with which the chip was discussed.
For the first time in recent years, the phone's CPU chip model was prominently displayed during the launch, signaling a new level of self-sufficiency for Huawei. What truly sets this phone apart from being a mere update is its capability to run PC software on mobile devices, significantly boosting productivity.
Given its large, foldable screen, the Mate XTs' expanded display area necessitates unique software adaptations. The ability to run PC software, including office, finance, and design applications, represents a meaningful enhancement. Coupled with stylus support, the user experience is poised to be exceptional. In terms of screen quality, the 10.2-inch 3K display remains unchanged when unfolded, mirroring the XT's specifications in other aspects.
According to the press conference, the adoption of new light transmission and display technology has significantly reduced screen power consumption, contributing to longer battery life. Beyond the screen, the hinge is crucial for the foldable phone experience. The Mate XTs' special steel and structural design enhance hinge durability and impact resistance.
While the imaging upgrades are modest, they are still commendable. The primary camera and periscope telephoto lens retain 50 million and 12 million pixels, respectively, while the ultra-wide-angle lens has been upgraded from 12 million to 40 million pixels. Additionally, the integration of a new-generation ISP significantly improves image processing capabilities. Battery life remains consistent with a 5600mAh capacity, but Huawei claims an extra hour of usage thanks to the ultra-thin silicon-anode battery, with charging power unchanged.
Network capabilities include satellite communication, though support for low-orbit satellites is unclear. With HarmonyOS's exclusive optimizations and the ecosystem's support from domestic software developers, daily use should be seamless.
Priced at 17,999 yuan, the Mate XTs offers a 2000-yuan discount compared to the XT's initial price, embodying the principle of more value for less.
