This week witnessed significant turmoil within the VR gaming community. Meta announced the closure of three game studios—Twisted Pixel, Armature Studio, and Sanzaru Games—and implemented layoffs at Supernatural and Camouflaj. The global wave of layoffs in the gaming industry persists, with numerous talented VR professionals falling victim to corporate strategic realignments.

In stark contrast, VR social games have been achieving unprecedented milestones. On New Year's Eve, close to 150,000 individuals flocked to the virtual realm of VRChat to celebrate, with the majority donning VR headsets. Last weekend, over 1 million users delved into the world of Gorilla Tag via VR headsets, setting a new benchmark. The 'metaverse' concept envisioned by Meta is flourishing in various forms through these innovative creations.

Regarding new releases, this week was relatively subdued. A notable highlight is the release of Episode 2 of Mulan 2125, produced by Weiling Times, on the Quest platform. Apple Vision Pro users can enjoy both episodes simultaneously (the full series is planned to comprise four episodes). This film garnered the 'Best Innovative Technology Film' award at the 2025 Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival - Golden Rooster XR Film Exhibition and has completed theatrical screenings in Shanghai and Zhengzhou.
