Sometimes on the internet, we encounter people describing a product as "revolutionary" to highlight significant technological innovations. In reality, many products are not worthy of such a description, as it is reserved for those that exclusively employ new technologies that competitors cannot replicate in the short term. Evaluated by this standard, only a handful of products can truly be considered revolutionary. However, even with such a stringent criterion, Huawei still has products that fit the bill.
Recently, it was revealed online that Huawei is developing a triple-folding screen phone, a product that Yu Chengdong described as something competitors want but cannot produce, implying the immense technical difficulty involved. Moreover, this is not a conceptual product; mass production is expected to commence as early as the third quarter of this year, or at the latest by the end of the year. Due to the complexity of production, the timeline may be extended, but I anticipate sales to commence by the first half of next year.
An insider revealed that AI is a crucial technology in Huawei's triple-folding phone. While AI has become ubiquitous in the mobile industry, including Huawei's own products, the AI in this triple-folding phone is said to incorporate Huawei's latest AI technology. The specific differences in user experience compared to industry-standard AI remain confidential, but given the revolutionary nature of the hardware, the AI technology is undoubtedly top-tier.
In fact, Huawei's triple-folding screen patent was first exposed online as early as March this year. Although it's unclear when the patent was filed, it at least proves that Huawei has been prepared for some time, aligning with Yu Chengdong's statement that research and development began five years ago. With preparations in place and product development progressing smoothly, the launch of related products is a natural next step. The patent drawings also show both horizontal and vertical triple-folding designs, indicating that product diversity was considered during the development stage.
The patent also explains how to reduce product thickness with a triple-folding design: by using screens of varying thicknesses. Personally, I speculate that the middle screen is the thinnest for effective device protection. Some online opinions suggest that competitors will follow suit within 1-2 years of Huawei's launch, trivializing the product. I strongly disagree with this notion.
First-to-market manufacturers face numerous challenges without any guidance, incurring significant trial-and-error costs and high component procurement expenses due to an immature supply chain. Yet, upon success, they become industry leaders, paving the way for competitors. While many aspire to such leadership, only Huawei has achieved it, which is truly remarkable.
Lastly, regarding pricing, I predict that Huawei's first triple-folding phone will have a starting price close to 20,000 yuan. What do you think?
