As the flagship straight-edge model of the Mate series launched by Huawei last year, the Mate 60 series has gained the favor of many consumers since its debut due to its outstanding performance on the product side. Following rumors that exposed information about the new Mate 70 series, officials recently revealed that it may officially debut in the fourth quarter of this year and announced further details about its hardware configuration.
According to the leaks, the release date of the Mate 70 series may be slightly later than expected, with an anticipated launch in the middle to late fourth quarter, after November. This adjustment is primarily due to the need for more time to ensure optimal performance in the adaptation process between HarmonyOS NEXT and the new Kirin 5G SoC. It is reported that this new Kirin chip adopts a new platform with improved craftsmanship, undoubtedly bringing a smoother and more efficient user experience.
If this is the case, the release dates of Huawei's Mate 70 series and Apple's iPhone 16 series will not overlap, and we may not see a "Huawei vs. Apple" battle. However, at this time, Xiaomi's 15 series will also be released, potentially leading to a "Xiaomi vs. Huawei" showdown.
So, what are the most anticipated features of Huawei's annual high-end flagship phone, the Mate 70 series?
Firstly, in terms of hardware configuration, the Mate 70 series will be equipped with a 1.5K resolution LTPO screen and the OV50K ultra-large sensor variable aperture main camera from domestic CMOS manufacturer OmniVision, providing users with exceptional visual and photography experiences. Additionally, the Mate 70 series will have a built-in super silicon battery, which, although not exceeding 6000mAh, is expected to meet users' daily needs.
From the exposed information, the Mate 70 series has made significant upgrades in imaging hardware. Some models will be equipped with OmniVision's one-inch large sensor main camera, which surpasses the industry-recognized benchmark, Sony IMX989, in some performance indicators. This means that the Mate 70 series will perform even better in light capture and image resolution. Furthermore, the series will also feature the OV50K sensor, boasting 50 million pixels, a 1/1.3-inch large sensor, and a 1.2-micron pixel size, likely incorporating Huawei's exclusive XMAGE imaging technology.
Additionally, domestic media reports that Huawei's Mate 70 is progressing smoothly, and the new phone is expected to come with 3D facial recognition across all models.
According to reports, some bloggers have suggested that the Mate 70 series may come standard with 3D-TOF depth-sensing cameras, but it is not yet confirmed if this will be the final implementation.
The 3D-TOF depth-sensing camera has appeared on previous Huawei Mate series phones, but it was not standard across all models, only available on the Pro version and above. The standard version did not support it.
If the 3D-TOF depth-sensing camera becomes standard across all Mate 70 models, it will enhance the user experience even for standard version users.
Furthermore, leaks indicate that the Mate 70 series will be powered by a new Kirin platform, achieving a benchmark score of around 1.1 million points.
Last year's Mate 60 Pro was equipped with the Kirin 9000S, and the Pura 70 series, launched in the first half of this year, came with the Kirin 9010, both scoring below 1 million points on AnTuTu benchmarks.
The Mate 70 series represents a significant improvement in performance compared to the Mate 60 series and Pura 70 series, with a score of 1.1 million points equivalent to Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8, showcasing formidable power.
According to the latest leaks, the Mate 70 series boasts the most significant upgrade in craftsmanship among the past three generations. Simultaneously, the new phone's imaging capabilities will also be among the best in the three generations.
