As the highest-end product line under Redmi, the Redmi K70 series has garnered widespread popularity among consumers due to its excellent performance and cost-effectiveness. With the gradual exposure of information about its successor, the Redmi K80 series, recent reports indicate that two new models, the Redmi K80 and Redmi K80 Pro, have reportedly obtained network access licenses.

According to the latest certification details, the model numbers for the Redmi K80 and Redmi K80 Pro are reportedly 24122RKC7C and 24117RK2CC, respectively.

Furthermore, rumors suggest that the standard Redmi K80 boasts a 6410mAh battery, while the Pro version also exceeds 6000mAh, supporting 90W wired fast charging. This makes it the Redmi K-series model with the largest battery capacity to date.

Notably, thanks to advancements in silicon-carbon anode battery technology, recent smartphones have been equipped with ultra-large batteries. For instance, the Redmi Note 14 series features a 6200mAh battery.

Traditionally, graphite has been used as the anode material in batteries due to its wide availability, low cost, and mature production processes. However, graphite has a theoretical specific capacity of only 340-370mAh/g. In contrast, silicon-based anode materials can achieve a specific capacity of up to 4200mAh/g, significantly enhancing battery energy density.

The principle behind this is that silicon atoms in the silicon-carbon anode can absorb more lithium ions, storing more energy, resulting in a higher specific capacity. Coupled with improvements in cathode materials and electrolytes, this leads to an even higher battery energy density.

Currently, the Redmi K80 is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 mobile platform, equipped with a 2K OLED domestic screen supplied by China Star Optoelectronics, and feature a large-capacity battery of approximately 6500mAh supporting 90W fast charging. It will sport a rear camera system with a large sensor, and its starting price may be around 2500 yuan.

Meanwhile, the Redmi K80 Pro will adopt the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 mobile platform, also equipped with a 2K OLED domestic screen from China Star Optoelectronics. It will have a large-capacity battery of around 6000mAh supporting 90W fast charging, a rear camera system with a large sensor, and a telephoto lens. Its starting price may exceed 3000 yuan.

It's worth mentioning that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 utilizes Qualcomm's in-house Oyron CPU, consisting entirely of performance cores, including 2*4.09GHz ultra-large cores and 6*2.78GHz large cores. Integrated with the Adreno 830 GPU and manufactured using TSMC's 3nm process, it offers substantial improvements in both performance and energy efficiency.

In benchmark tests, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 prototype achieved a single-core score of 2884 and a multi-core score of 8840, making it the most powerful mobile chip in the Android camp. For comparison, Apple's A17 Pro scored 2980 in the single-core and 7850 in the multi-core on Geekbench 6.

Additionally, similar to previous models, the Redmi K80 series may also include the Redmi K80E, priced below 2000 yuan. It is expected to be powered by MediaTek's Dimensity processor, with a slightly downgraded configuration compared to the other two models.

Notably, reliable sources indicate that the Redmi K80 Pro will adopt a single-point ultrasonic under-screen fingerprint solution provided by Goodix Technology. This new product is anticipated to debut in the fourth quarter of this year.

It's worth noting that while both Redmi and Xiaomi belong to the Xiaomi ecosystem, Redmi has chosen to exclusively use Goodix Technology's ultrasonic fingerprint recognition solution, while Xiaomi's digital series adopts both Goodix and Qualcomm solutions. This demonstrates that Xiaomi Group's various brands have different strategic considerations when selecting suppliers. Nevertheless, ultrasonic under-screen fingerprint technology is expected to become a new trend in the second half of this year.

Compared to existing optical fingerprint recognition technology, ultrasonic sensors emit pulses to perceive the unique concave-convex details of fingerprints and construct a more precise 3D depth image, enhancing recognition accuracy and security.

Moreover, this technology is unaffected by screen brightness and can function normally even at low brightness levels. Crucially, ultrasonic fingerprint recognition maintains a high recognition rate even with wet hands or dirty fingers, significantly enhancing the user experience.

In other news, recent renders of the Redmi Note 14 series have been exposed. The camera module of this series features a rounded rectangular design positioned centrally at the top of the back. Meanwhile, design details of the Redmi K80 series have also been revealed. A blogger disclosed that the prototype of this series has abandoned the large rectangular camera module design and moved it to the top left corner. Additionally, the blogger mentioned that Redmi plans to release a new smartwatch by the end of the year.

The blogger further revealed that the Pro model in the Redmi K80 series has upgraded camera functionality, featuring a rear triple-camera system with a 50MP high-resolution telephoto lens. This model adopts a circular camera design in the top left corner, differing from the previous square module designs seen in the Redmi K70 and K70 Pro.

Based on the concept render created by the blogger, the Redmi K80 Pro does indeed exhibit significant changes compared to its predecessor, most notably the transformation of the camera module from a square to a circular shape.

However, it's essential to note that these configuration upgrades may lead to an increase in the price of the Redmi K80 series.

Finally, it is reported that the Redmi K80 series will officially debut in November this year. As the release date approaches, more details about the configurations of this series will gradually emerge. Stay tuned!
