The real surprise of Huawei's HarmonyOS is here! The official hint is obvious: Unification across three platforms!

For HarmonyOS, its significance extends beyond many people's understanding. At present, the most impressive aspect is HarmonyOS NEXT, which is about to be widely applied in the mobile device field. It seems poised to compete with Android and iOS systems in the future. However, we must also recognize that while mobile devices encompass a wide range, they are only a part of all electronic digital products. For instance, the progress of PC adaptation seems slower than that of mobile devices. But as a distributed system, HarmonyOS cannot remain indifferent to the PC field.

In fact, Huawei executives have previously stated that there would be a PC version of HarmonyOS, but it seems that it won't be available until next year. However, the current progress seems to have advanced, as there are already relevant hints on Huawei's official channels. Personally, I believe the relevant statements can be considered explicit: the PC version of HarmonyOS is currently under testing. On the relevant page of the developer's official website, next to phones and tablets, there are devices with larger screens, clearly indicating a PC interface.

Upon closer inspection, it becomes evident that not only the demonstration images reveal the existence of the PC version of HarmonyOS, but the verbal descriptions also imply the same. For example, in the "Multi-window Adaptation" section, it mentions "tablets and wider devices." What device can be wider than a tablet? It's a computer. Coupled with other image demonstrations, we can not only confirm the existence of the PC version of HarmonyOS but also the possibility of an early release, potentially even as a surprise alongside HarmonyOS NEXT.

Of course, when we talk about an early release, it's more likely that it refers to announcing the existence of the relevant system. For actual commercial use, it's highly probable that we'll have to wait until next year. Based on the development news released by Huawei, the PC version not only supports multi-device collaboration but also seamless switching operations, which is crucial for enhancing the experience across devices within the same ecosystem and fostering user loyalty. Apple does this very well, and Huawei will surely follow suit by combining excellent hardware and software to discourage users from easily switching camps.

At this point, you might be wondering why the commercial launch of the PC version of HarmonyOS is so much later than that of the mobile version, given its importance. The answer is simple: the difficulty of application development differs significantly. Although mobile devices are becoming increasingly powerful and can now accomplish tasks previously exclusive to PCs, some physical limits cannot be breached within a certain timeframe. No matter how powerful a phone or tablet may be, it cannot compete with a robust PC device.

Gaming is a prime example. Although some mobile games now support ray tracing, the gap is still apparent when compared to truly high-quality PC games. The same goes for powerful editing software, where the PC version is the true "full version." Based on Huawei's design content, the considerations are already very comprehensive, encompassing both operational experience and UI design. We can already see the rudimentary form of a PC system.

Currently, the biggest challenge lies in freeing users from their reliance on the Windows system, which is far more difficult than breaking away from iOS or Android.
