The once highly sought-after Huawei Pura70 has suddenly become unusually affordable.

On July 18, Huawei officially announced that it would offer limited-time discounts on the Huawei Pura70 series, with discounts of up to 1,000 yuan. However, during media interviews, it was clarified that this discount only applied to the Pura70, while Huawei's previous flagship Mate60 series did not receive any discounts.

The Pura70 series is a new model launched by Huawei in the first half of this year, and it has been on the market for exactly three months.

Announcing discounts just three months after launch, while not uncommon in the mobile phone industry, is still relatively special for Huawei – it's worth noting that this phone also created a highly sought-after effect similar to the Mate60 when it first went on sale.

However, the official announcement of a price reduction just three months later has surprised countless Huawei fans.

But according to Huawei insiders, sales of the Pura70 series have been consistently good since its launch, with shipments of the Pura70 series even increasing by 125% compared to the P60 series during the same period.

If we base our calculations on the data from statistics agency TechInsights, which states that the P60 shipped 1.8 million units, then even if the Pura70's shipments increased by 125% compared to the P60, the Pura70's shipments would still only be around 2 million units.

However, several self-media analysts believe that the reason for the price reduction of the Pura70 series just three months after its launch may be related to consumers' anticipation of the Mate70 series launch – compared to the Pura70 series, the upcoming Mate70 series at the end of the year is more attractive in terms of configuration and operating system.

Previously, netizens revealed that the upcoming Mate70 series has many highlights, with the Kirin chip, pure HarmonyOS, and Huawei's self-developed camera configuration undoubtedly being the three major selling points.

Regarding the Kirin chip, Huawei continues to use the Kirin chip in the Pure 70 series, and since Huawei has previously launched chips such as the Kirin 9000WL, Kirin 9010, and Kirin 9010L, it is not difficult to speculate that the Mate70 will be equipped with Huawei's latest processor.

Previously, some netizens believed that as Huawei's flagship product, the Mate70 would be equipped with the most powerful Kirin processor, and the Kirin 9100 chip, built using N+1 technology, has a high probability of becoming the preferred chip for the Mate70. Currently, it is understood from various channels that the 9100 processor has reached the level of 5nm process technology in terms of wafer density, representing a significant improvement in performance and capability compared to the Kirin 9010.

In terms of the operating system, Yu Chengdong and Xu Zhijun have previously stated, either explicitly or implicitly, that the native applications of the pure HarmonyOS have reached over 5,000. Therefore, at the Mate70 chip launch event in the second half of the year, the pure HarmonyOS is highly likely to debut alongside the Mate70.

If the Mate70 becomes the first device to feature the pure HarmonyOS, many fans and consumers are bound to purchase it to be among the first to experience it, which will indirectly boost the sales of the Mate70.

In terms of camera configuration, it is understood that the Pro version of the Mate70 series is highly likely to be equipped with the domestic OV50K sensor from OmniVision. This sensor has 50 megapixels, allowing for a significant increase in light intake and greatly improving imaging quality in low-light environments. In terms of supporting variable aperture settings, this sensor also supports ten physical variable aperture stops.

Therefore, if the Mate70 series offers such advantages in performance, operating system, and photography, it is not difficult to see why many consumers with purchasing needs are naturally waiting for the launch of the Mate70 series. In this context, the fact that the Pura70 series has encountered a cold reception just three months after its launch is quite understandable.

Now that the Mate70 is poised to launch, Huawei's official decision to offer discounts on the Pura70 series is a normal business logic and choice. Consumers currently have high hopes for the Mate70, so they are temporarily holding off on purchases to see how the Mate70 performs, which is in line with normal consumer purchasing psychology.

Born in such a market environment, the Pura70 series, with the Mate60 series leading the way and the Mate70 series following up, has achieved sales of over 2 million units despite these challenges, a number that is already sufficient to pass the threshold.

Moreover, in addition to the Pura70 and Mate70 series, Huawei also has other brands such as Nova, which are also contributing to the overall sales of Huawei phones.

Although the sales of the Pura70 series cannot be compared to those of the Mate series, Huawei's overall phone sales and market share have gradually increased after enduring five years of severe sanctions.

In the first half of this year, reports from international data companies such as IDC, Canalys, and TechInsights showed that Huawei surpassed Apple in both market share and ranking in the Chinese market. Furthermore, data from BCI revealed that Huawei phones had the highest domestic activation growth rate among all brands in the second quarter.

These various indications show that even though the Pura70 series has encountered a cold reception, Huawei's position as a leading player in the domestic mobile phone market remains unshakeable.
