Recently, media reports revealed that the cumulative orders for BYD's latest models, the Qin L+ and the Dolphin 06, have exceeded 80,000 units. Although this news has not been confirmed by BYD officials, it is undeniable that since their launch at the end of May, the popularity of the Qin L and Dolphin 06 has remained high.

The starting price of the new cars is 99,800 yuan, with a claimed fuel consumption of 2.9L per 100 kilometers on electricity loss and a comprehensive range of up to 2,100km. These figures can be said to have overturned Chinese consumers' perception of new energy vehicles. Of course, the biggest contributor behind this is the fifth-generation DM hybrid technology. Therefore, many people want to know, besides the Qin L and Dolphin 06, which other models will be equipped with the fifth-generation DM hybrid technology? Today, let's take a sneak peek.

1. Song L DM-i

Expected launch date: August

The closest to us is the Song L DM-i, which is expected to be launched in August. This model is BYD's first L series model, currently only available in a pure electric version. Now that the fifth-generation DM-i technology has been introduced, the Song L will also launch a DM-i version.

In terms of appearance, unlike the pure electric version, the Song L DM-i's front face has been replaced with BYD's latest Dragon Face 2.0 design language, with narrow light clusters connected to the grille, and a large-sized air vent below for internal combustion engine cooling, giving the overall shape a sharper appearance.

From the side, the new car does not adopt the fastback tail design of the Song L, but a more conventional SUV design. In terms of the rear, the new car adopts a through-design tail light group, with a Chinese knot light group structure inside, which is different from the Song L pure electric version. It is worth mentioning that the "Build your dream" logo has been removed, replaced by BYD's new logo, which also features a luminous design.

The interior has not yet been revealed, but it is highly likely to be the same as the Song L, equipped with an independent liquid crystal instrument, a floating central control screen, and a crystal gear lever. In terms of body dimensions, the new car measures 4780/1898/1670(mm) in length, width, and height, respectively, with a wheelbase of 2782mm.

In terms of the chassis, unlike the pure electric version's front double wishbone and rear five-link structure, the Song L DM-i will adopt a front McPherson independent suspension and rear four-link independent suspension combination, which is expected to further lower the starting price. It is estimated that the starting price of the Song L DM-i may be around 150,000-160,000 yuan.

In terms of power, according to the declaration information, the new car will be equipped with a plug-in hybrid power system consisting of a 1.5L engine model BYD472QC and an electric motor. The engine has a maximum power of 74kW, and the electric motor has a maximum power of 160kW. The battery uses a lithium iron phosphate battery, with power configuration consistent with the Qin L's 120KM model.

2. Han L DM-i

Expected launch date: within the year

According to reports, the positioning of the Han L will be higher than that of the Han DM-i, and it is expected to be equipped with BYD's fifth-generation DM hybrid technology, as well as the Cloud Control-C adaptive suspension, using a brand-new dedicated hybrid chassis and CTB technology. The suspension system is expected to be upgraded to front and rear double wishbone suspensions, which will further enhance the vehicle's handling performance.

In addition, the battery pack capacity of the new car is expected to increase, and the pure electric range will be further improved. Not only that, the Han L is expected to further increase in body size, potentially reaching a length of 5 meters and a wheelbase of 3 meters, making it a standard medium to large sedan.

It is worth mentioning that the Han L is expected to offer both DM-P and pure electric versions, potentially delivering surprises in terms of dynamic performance. With reference to the current starting price of the Han DM-i, which has been set at around 150,000 yuan, it is estimated that the starting price of the Han L will be around 200,000 yuan.

3. Tang L

Expected launch date: within the year

Spy photos suspected to be of the Tang L have already been exposed online. The front face design of the new car is more imposing, and its size will be larger than the current Tang, slightly smaller than the Nio U8. The Tang L is expected to compete with the Lixiang L9 and the WENJIE M9.

From the spy photos, it can be seen that the area between the C-pillar and D-pillar of the Tang L is relatively large, which means that the new car will offer a third row of seats, and its third row will have decent space.

In terms of power, the Tang L will be equipped with the fifth-generation DM system, consisting of a 2.0T engine, a second-generation Blade battery, and an electric motor. Specific configuration parameters are yet to be officially released. It is reported that the Tang L will not be equipped with air suspension, but it is possible to incorporate the Cloud Control C intelligent damping body control system.

In terms of price, since it is targeting the Lixiang L9 and the WENJIE M9, it is estimated that the starting price of the Tang L may be above 300,000 yuan. Will the final mass-produced model deliver surprises?

Summary

The improvement of the fifth-generation DM system is mainly achieved through local optimization of current structural components, efficient integration of hardware, and more efficient collaboration and intelligent software control strategies based on hardware integration. It can be seen that the cost of the new system is controllable and can be quickly matched to other BYD plug-in hybrid models in the future.

Besides long range and low fuel consumption, will BYD bring more technological collisions and surprises when applying the fifth-generation DM system to mid-to-high-end models? It's worth looking forward to! What do you think of the above three models that will be equipped with the fifth-generation DM hybrid technology?
