Let’s be frank: The Xiaomi YU7 GT is a technological marvel, but the real sales winner will be the budget-friendly YU7 Standard Edition.

Xiaomi has officially unveiled its most premium offering, the YU7 GT, alongside the most affordable YU7 Standard Edition.

With these additions, the Xiaomi YU7 lineup now boasts five variants: the YU7 Standard Edition priced at 233,500 yuan; the YU7 Long Range Edition at 253,500 yuan; the YU7 Pro at 279,900 yuan; the YU7 Max at 329,900 yuan; and the top-tier YU7 GT at 389,900 yuan.

From a technological standpoint, the YU7 GT reigns supreme, having clinched the top spot at the Nürburgring track, outpacing its rivals by a significant 14-second margin. Unsurprisingly, it commands the highest price tag at 389,900 yuan.

For those seeking a well-rounded option, the YU7 Pro, priced at 279,900 yuan, stands out with its all-wheel-drive system and air suspension. While it may lack some of the top-tier features, it offers an excellent balance of performance and affordability. Not everyone requires the absolute pinnacle of automotive technology.

The most budget-friendly choice is the YU7 Standard Edition at 233,500 yuan, which undercuts the Standard Edition of the Model Y by 30,000 yuan.

Many anticipate that the YU7 GT, with its impressive performance and surprisingly affordable price (initially expected to exceed 400,000 yuan but now priced at 389,900 yuan), will be a runaway success.

While the YU7 Standard Edition is indeed affordable at 233,500 yuan, its range of only 643KM may deter some buyers.

If you think so, you're mistaken. In my opinion, the YU7 GT is more of a showcase model, and its sales volume is unlikely to be substantial. On the contrary, the most affordable variant is poised to become the volume seller. It's bound to be a hit. Just wait for the sales data to confirm it.

Looking at past examples, the SU7 Ultra was an incredibly powerful vehicle that also topped the Nürburgring track.

It generated significant buzz upon its release, but how did its sales fare? Its total sales in 2025, following its launch, may not have exceeded 15,000 units.

Subsequently, in 2026, due to sluggish sales, the dedicated sales team was disbanded.

This underscores the limited market for such high-performance vehicles in China. The vast majority of consumers, to put it bluntly, around 98%, are in the market for a family car or a commuter vehicle when purchasing a car.

Therefore, the YU7 GT is not the ideal choice for these buyers. While some may opt for it, it will certainly not be the mainstream preference.

Price has consistently been the primary consideration for the majority of consumers.

Take the Model Y, for instance. The Standard Edition is also the most affordable option. While everyone acknowledges that the Long Range Edition is superior, most buyers opt for the Standard Edition.

Previously, the best-selling version of the Xiaomi YU7 was the Standard Edition (now renamed the Long Range Edition). Despite knowing that the Pro is better and the Max is more powerful, why did the Standard Edition dominate sales? Because it's more affordable.

Consequently, this Standard Edition is also expected to become the most sought-after model, now priced 20,000 yuan lower.

For most consumers, a range of 643KM is more than adequate, exceeding the Tesla Model Y's 593KM by 50KM and costing 30,000 yuan less.

It's also 20,000 yuan cheaper than the YU7 Long Range Edition, with only a marginal difference of over 100KM in range. According to data released by the authorities, as of the end of April, China had a total of 21,955,000 public charging stations, making energy replenishment a non-issue.

Therefore, with the introduction of the YU7 Standard Edition, I anticipate that Xiaomi YU7 sales will reach new heights.
