Tengshi Dominates Guangzhou Auto Show: Taking the Path of New Forces, Leaving No Room for Them

Tengshi Auto, Stable.

The brands exhibited in Hall 2.1 all belong to the BYD Group—if Electric Car News remembers correctly, this is the first time BYD has rented an entire hall at the Guangzhou Auto Show. Judging from past exhibition experience, BYD has typically been able to achieve this in its home base of Shenzhen. Now being able to do so in an away game indicates that its strength and influence have grown to an extraordinary level.

Even though BYD has released many new vehicles this year, it still has new moves at this Guangzhou Auto Show, such as the interior debut of the BYD Xia MPV and the pre-sale launch of the Nio U7. However, the brand that deserves the most attention is Tengshi Auto. Electric Car News was invited to the Tengshi Auto press conference. In addition to showcasing its current models like the Tengshi D9 and Tengshi Z9GT, Tengshi Z9 officially launched, with a guidance price range of RMB 334,800 to RMB 414,800, the same as the Tengshi Z9GT. Furthermore, the all-new SUV Tengshi N9 made its global debut, bringing freshness to the audience with these two new models.

To date, Tengshi Auto has gained the trust of over 300,000 users. Its Tengshi D9 has been the top-selling MPV in the market and has the highest resale value for two consecutive years. The Tengshi N7 will achieve nationwide end-to-end city navigation by the end of the year, keeping up with the trend of intelligence. After the launch of the Tengshi Z9GT, it quickly became the top-selling new energy luxury sedan priced above RMB 300,000.

The Tengshi Z9 and Tengshi N9 are positioned as the brand's flagship sedan and flagship SUV, respectively. The launch of these two flagship models will undoubtedly give Tengshi Auto more leverage to compete with traditional luxury brands.

Tengshi Z9 Appeals More to the Public

Simply put, the Tengshi Z9 is actually a branch of the Tengshi Z9 lineup. The Tengshi Z9GT is a shooting brake, while the Tengshi Z9 is a sedan. Both are flagship sedans of the brand, with no changes in body design details, parking technology, or other black tech configurations; only the body shapes differ significantly.

The Tengshi Z9 has a smoother connection between the roof and the rear, presenting a slightly sloping back. In terms of dimensions, the Tengshi Z9 measures 5220 (5235)/1990/1500 (1518) mm in length, width, and height, respectively, with a wheelbase of 3125 mm. It is slightly longer and taller than the Tengshi Z9GT.

Compared to the shooting brake design of the Tengshi Z9GT, the sedan structure may be more suitable for mainstream public aesthetics. While station wagons/shooting brakes perfectly balance space and aesthetic quality, for a long time, they seemed to have been condemned by domestic consumers due to aesthetic issues, leading automakers to be cautious about this category.

It is worth noting that the recently launched Zeekr 001 and NIO ET5T both adopt a body shape similar to that of station wagons/shooting brakes, and their market sales have been impressive. This indicates that the current automotive market is gradually becoming more accepting of this category, which is well demonstrated by the surge in sales of the Tengshi Z9GT.

However, traditional sedans remain the mainstream aesthetic in the sedan market. Popular new energy sedans like the BYD Han and Xiaomi SU7 adopt traditional sedan body shapes.

Electric Car News would like to point out that the dual-body design of the Tengshi Z9 is unique among domestic new energy vehicles and traditional luxury brands like BBA. Whether you prefer niche or mainstream aesthetics, the Tengshi Z9 offers options.

Global Debut of Tengshi N9, Rivaling Li Xiang L9

Positioned as a large SUV, the Tengshi N9 made its public debut at this auto show. It is evident that the new vehicle will directly compete with products like the Li Xiang L9. During this auto show, Tengshi N9 only unveiled its exterior design, with interior, configuration, and powertrain information yet to be disclosed. Nevertheless, for most viewers, an attractive exterior is already sufficient at an auto show.

Specifically, the Tengshi N9 features a brand logo embedded in the middle of its front grille, with the daytime running lights intermittently arranged according to the split light cluster design. The C-shaped ventilation openings on both sides of the lower grille are eye-catching. Additionally, Electric Car News noticed that there is an actively openable air intake in the middle of the front grille, which is designed to cool the internal systems.

In terms of dimensions, the Tengshi N9 measures 5258/2030/1830 mm in length, width, and height, respectively, with a wheelbase of 3125 mm. Its length and wheelbase are more prominent than those of the Li Xiang L9. The Tengshi N9 does not adopt the dragon whisker design of the Tengshi Z9GT on its sides, but the concave door panels give the entire side a more three-dimensional appearance. The roof is equipped with a LiDAR, suggesting that the vehicle is equipped with advanced intelligent driving functions.

According to currently disclosed information, the Tengshi N9 will continue to offer both pure electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The plug-in hybrid version, which users are particularly interested in, boasts a total power output of 640 kW, with the 2.0T engine providing a maximum power of 152 kW. It is also equipped with a 46.992 kWh battery pack. Beyond this, the official has not revealed much more information.

Electric Car News believes that the Tengshi N9 will likely continue to utilize the Yisanfang technology, enabling unique functions such as "compass turns." This is likely to be the Tengshi N9's biggest advantage after its launch, as competitors like the Li Xiang L9 cannot match this capability.

Penetrating the Core of the High-End Market, Tengshi is Becoming Increasingly Stable

Since its brand renewal, Tengshi Auto has successively launched three major product categories: MPVs, SUVs, and sedans, becoming the world's first new energy luxury brand covering the entire product range. As a luxury brand, there is undoubtedly a reason why Tengshi Auto has gradually gained a firm foothold in the domestic market.

First, at the positioning level, by addressing the pain points of MPV consumers, the Tengshi D9 DM-i quickly leveraged its new energy advantages, technological attributes, and luxury attributes to capture market share from established players like the Buick GL8, pioneering the domestic MPV market. Second, at the technological level, Tengshi Auto dares to experiment by applying the group's most advanced intelligent driving technology to the entry-level SUV Tengshi N7, gradually building a reputation in the field of intelligence.

More importantly, Tengshi has taken the lead in completing a full matrix layout in the high-end market. The current logic of competition in the automotive market is no longer about a single product but about brand-to-brand competition. Admittedly, the Li Xiang L9 and Wenjie M9 have impressive sales figures in the large SUV segment, which even luxury brands cannot match. However, with the influence of BYD, Tengshi N9, as a newcomer in the large SUV segment, has the potential to quickly capture market share from competitors like the Li Xiang L9 and Wenjie M9.

Judging from the current development trend of Tengshi Auto, the competitive pressure it brings to other new energy brands will only increase.
