In approximately two months' time, the new iPhone 17 will hit the market. Apple typically unveils its latest smartphones in mid-September.
The iPhone 17 series has been the subject of numerous leaks, covering everything from design to specifications. By compiling these leaks with information from reputable media sources, we can now confidently outline the four models in the iPhone 17 series.
These models include the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Compared to the previous generation, the 'Plus' variant has been discontinued, replaced by the introduction of the 'Air' model.
Regarding screens, following the adjustments made to the iPhone 16 series, the iPhone 17 series will undergo further enhancements. According to current leaks, the base model of the iPhone 17 will feature a 6.3-inch screen, matching the size of the Pro model.
The Air model will sport a 6.6-inch screen, while the Max will retain its 6.9-inch display. This means that although there are four models, there are only three distinct screen sizes, all of which have been increased in size.
The most significant change, however, lies in the rear camera module.
The camera module of the Pro version will now span the entire top of the device, unlike previous models where it only covered half. This new horizontal layout dedicates the entire top section to the camera module, with the flash and other sensors repositioned to the right side.
The Air version features a single rear camera, while the standard version has two. These differences are relatively minor.
In terms of specifications, the A19/A19 Pro chips will be utilized, continuing to be based on the 3nm process rather than the 2nm process. Furthermore, global memory may come standard at 12GB, particularly for the Pro version.
For screens, both the standard and Air versions will offer high refresh rates but will only support 60/120Hz. In contrast, the Pro version will feature a ProMotion adaptive refresh rate ranging from 1 to 120Hz.
That's essentially the summary. There will undoubtedly be some improvements in heat dissipation, battery life, charging capabilities, AI features, and photography, but these will be incremental rather than revolutionary. This is to be expected as smartphone technology has reached a plateau, with fewer major innovations left to captivate users.
Therefore, the iPhone 17 series doesn't offer much to get excited about. If your current phone is outdated and in need of replacement, then upgrading might be a good idea. However, if your phone is still functional, there's no urgent need to rush. The upgrade won't provide a significantly enhanced user experience.
