With the peak sales season of September now behind us and October in full swing, sales figures from various automakers have been steadily rolling in. The September performance report for the compact car market has now been released. Among the top 10 best-selling compact cars, domestic brands continue to showcase their strong competitiveness, securing six spots. Although joint-venture brands only account for four positions, their leading models still wield significant market influence.
Delving deeper into the data, only four compact car models achieved retail sales exceeding 10,000 units in September. The Lavida led the pack with 14,425 units sold, clinching the top spot for the second consecutive month. The MG4 ranked second with 13,966 units sold in September. The Qin PLUS and Sagitar both surpassed the 10,000-unit mark, with sales of 10,652 and 10,116 units, respectively. The Corolla followed closely behind with 9,197 units.
Further analysis reveals that the Xing Rui sold 8,477 units in September, maintaining a relatively stable performance. The Sylphy recorded 8,057 units sold, experiencing a month-on-month decline of 34.1%, indicating a slight waning of market enthusiasm. In contrast, Leapmotor demonstrated remarkable growth momentum, with a 42.1% month-on-month increase, selling 7,120 units. The Dihao and Arrizo 8 rounded out the top 10 list, ranking ninth and tenth, respectively.

Rank 1: Lavida - 14,425 units
The Volkswagen Lavida claimed the top spot for compact fuel-powered car sales in September, selling 14,425 units. It not only led among fuel-powered models but also topped the overall compact sedan sales chart. Despite facing ongoing challenges from new energy vehicles, this well-established family car has managed to hold its ground, thanks to its solid reputation, stable resale value, and alignment with the needs of ordinary households.

Rank 2: MG4 - 13,966 units
In September, the MG4 sold 13,966 units, marking a 6.7% month-on-month increase and demonstrating stable overall performance. Leveraging core technologies such as CTB (Cell-to-Body) battery integration, an integrated thermal management system, and hybrid solid-liquid batteries, along with spacious interiors and strong power performance, the MG4 has shattered the stereotype that "pure electric hatchbacks are just for commuting." It is now leading the pure electric hatchback market and solidifying the brand's sales foundation.

Rank 3: Qin PLUS - 10,652 units
The Qin PLUS sold 10,652 units in September, climbing to third place. Equipped with BYD's DM-i super hybrid technology, it ensures strong power performance while delivering exceptional fuel efficiency. Its exterior design follows a steady and generous aesthetic, avoiding overly aggressive styling, making it widely acceptable to family users. With a starting price of 79,800 yuan, it allows more people to experience plug-in hybrid vehicles at a relatively affordable price.

Rank 4: Sagitar - 10,116 units
The Sagitar sold 10,116 units in September, remaining a "perennial favorite" among fuel-powered cars. Its stable market performance stems from its solid product advantages. The Sagitar features a well-tuned German chassis, delivering excellent high-speed stability—a clear advantage over competitors in the same price range. Additionally, it runs on regular fuel, with low fuel consumption and maintenance costs. Its longer wheelbase provides ample interior space for daily family use and short commutes, while its affordable pricing further enhances its cost-effectiveness in its class.

Rank 5: Corolla - 9,197 units
The Corolla sold 9,197 units in September, a 25.8% month-on-month increase, showing overall positive momentum. Its TNGA architecture ensures high safety standards, while the fifth-generation hybrid system significantly boosts fuel efficiency. Years of accumulated reliability, along with its hassle-free durability and high cost-effectiveness, make it a safe and reliable choice for family cars.

Rank 6: Xing Rui - 8,477 units
The Geely Xing Rui sold 8,477 units in September, ranking sixth with a slight 4.1% month-on-month decline. As a premium A+ class family fuel car, its market performance has remained stable, and this minor dip has not shaken its firm position in the segment. The Xing Rui not only meets daily travel needs but also exceeds expectations with its stylish exterior, high-quality interior, and cutting-edge technological features.

Rank 7: Sylphy - 8,057 units
The Sylphy sold 8,057 units in September. While its core advantages of comfort and fuel efficiency remain, its market competitiveness has weakened somewhat. This classic Nissan model emphasizes comfort, reliability, and economy. Its spacious interior provides a pleasant riding experience, and its stable handling performance complements its smooth power output and efficient fuel control, helping reduce driving costs amid fluctuating fuel prices.

Rank 8: Leapmotor B01 - 7,120 units
The Leapmotor B01 sold 7,120 units in September, a significant 42.1% month-on-month increase, standing out as the top gainer in the top 10 list. Leveraging 800V fast charging, spacious interiors, rich cabin configurations, and an affordable price, it has won favor among many consumers.

Rank 9: Dihao - 6,921 units
The Geely Dihao sold 6,921 units in September, maintaining robust market performance. As a seasoned contender in Geely's compact car lineup, it relies on its consistently affordable pricing, adequate space, and low maintenance costs. Its strong reputation ensures steady sales support.

Rank 10: Arrizo 8 - 6,705 units
The Arrizo 8 sold 6,705 units in September, a 13.1% month-on-month increase, showing steady growth. Powered by Chery's mature Kunpeng engine and featuring a spacious cabin with a 2,790mm wheelbase, it has gradually found its rhythm in the family sedan market.

Final Thoughts:
Overall, this market is characterized by both the resilience of established models and the impact of new entrants. Fuel-powered vehicles have maintained their market base, while new energy vehicles continue to expand their presence. Together, these two forces create a fiercely competitive and highly dynamic landscape.
Of course, it is foreseeable that more domestic new energy vehicles will enter this segment in the future, further squeezing the market space for traditional fuel cars. However, for now, fuel-powered vehicles, with their long-standing reputation and user base, still secure a solid position in the compact car market, coexisting and competing with new energy models for the long term.
