On July 31, 2025, the Cyberspace Administration of China conducted an interview with NVIDIA, based on regulations such as the Cybersecurity Law and Data Security Law. During the interview, concerns were raised regarding the H20 computing chip exclusively supplied to the Chinese market, citing potential security risks like "remote shutdown" and "tracking and positioning." NVIDIA was requested to provide technical explanations and supporting documentation.

Amid the controversy surrounding these alleged severe security issues in its computing chips, NVIDIA has stepped forward to assert its innocence.

NVIDIA emphasized: "Cybersecurity is of paramount importance to us. Our chips do not contain any 'backdoors' and do not permit remote access or control by any party."

The root of this matter lies in recent actions by the U.S. government. American lawmakers have been advocating for the inclusion of "tracking and positioning" capabilities in exported advanced chips. Currently, the U.S. Congress is deliberating on the "Chip Security Act," which aims to compel companies like NVIDIA to integrate positioning modules into their chips. This measure is not intended to prevent theft but rather to establish an electronic surveillance mechanism that continuously monitors chip activities.

Further exacerbating the situation, experts have revealed that NVIDIA possesses advanced capabilities in tracking and remote shutdown technology. Specifically, for its H20 chips sold in China, data is automatically transmitted to a data center in Singapore, where the U.S. Department of Commerce can access it in real-time.

The revelation that personal data may be visible to third parties when purchasing chips with hard-earned money is deeply concerning and unacceptable. Following the interview, NVIDIA-related stocks in the A-share market experienced a decline, while domestic chip stocks defied the trend, with SMIC's Hong Kong-listed shares surging by more than 5%.
