Sensor requirements vary by product tier. Entry-level versions may reduce hardware to lower costs, while flagship or higher automation models deploy comprehensive sensor suites. Strong software capabilities can also minimize hardware use, reducing overall costs.

Decision-making should not focus solely on sensor hardware costs. Integration complexity, software development, validation, compliance, and post-sale operations and maintenance expenses must be considered. Sometimes, an expensive sensor simplifies algorithm and validation efforts, reducing total costs. Alternatively, hardware alternatives may offer long-term operational advantages.
