According to Quick Technology on October 2, after a fire, the iPhone component factory located in southern India, operated by the Tata Group, announced that it would halt production indefinitely.
According to insiders, this incident may force Apple to face production disruptions during the upcoming holiday sales season, prompting the company to consider urgently allocating critical components from China or other regions.
Tata Electronics' factory in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, is the only supplier in India that provides iPhone rear panels and other components to Foxconn and its assembly plants, which subcontract for Apple.
The fire not only affected the expected sales of 1.5 million iPhones during India's Diwali festival for models 14 and 15 but may also make it difficult for Apple to meet up to 15% of market demand.
Neil Shah, co-founder of Counterpoint Research, pointed out that while Apple could offset some of the impact by importing more components and shifting export inventories to India, production of older iPhone models could still be affected by 10%-15%.
Currently, Apple's suppliers in India typically provide a 3-4 week inventory of back covers. However, insiders estimate that Apple's inventory could last up to 8 weeks, so there will not be significant short-term impacts.
But if the production suspension continues, Apple may consider setting up new assembly lines or increasing shifts in China to ensure the supply of components to iPhone manufacturers in India.
