09/30 2026 397

If there's a new automotive brand in China whose growth trajectory has defied expectations, Geely Galaxy undoubtedly stands out. Launched as a premium new energy vehicle series in February 2023, Geely Galaxy evolved into an independent brand by March 2025. Despite having been 'independent' for just a year, this fledgling brand embodies Geely Auto's ambition to claim the top spot in the domestic market by 2026. Central to this ambition is the Galaxy E5, a model that cannot be overlooked.

On September 23rd, Geely Auto unveiled the all-new Galaxy E5, setting a starting price below the 100,000 yuan threshold at just 97,800 yuan (early-bird offer). This represents a 4,000 yuan reduction from the entry-level price of its predecessor. However, with the exception of the base Classic variant, the new model boasts a comprehensive architecture upgrade.

Key enhancements in the all-new Galaxy E5 include a shift from front-wheel to rear-wheel drive, an upgrade from a four-link to a five-link rear suspension, a universal transition from a 400-volt to an 800-volt fast-charging architecture, and the inclusion of CCD intelligent variable damping suspension, LiDAR, and the Qianli Haohan H5 assisted driving system in premium versions.

The official narrative describes it as featuring next-generation three-electric technology, a native all-electric rear-wheel-drive architecture, an intelligent travel experience, a smart cockpit, and an all-domain safety system. Excluding the Classic variant, it's fair to say this is a completely new generation E5.

But can this heavyweight contender, which aims to challenge BYD's Yuan PLUS's 'flash charging stronghold' while undercutting the ultra-low price of the Qiyuan Q05, and simultaneously fend off the Shenlan S05's aggressive charge, truly deliver?

Intelligent Charging Onboard - Geely Galaxy E5 Aims to Dominate the Flash Charging Arena

At the launch event for the all-new Geely Galaxy E5, Geely unveiled a groundbreaking technology: Geely Intelligent Charging. According to official data, the Lynk & Co 10, equipped with this new technology, features a 395mm Shennon Golden Brick Battery Ultra-Short Blade Series with a maximum charging rate of 12C and a single-gun peak charging power of 2,250 kilowatts, making it the lithium iron phosphate battery with the highest mass-produced charging rate globally.

Under normal temperature conditions, the State of Charge (SOC) rises from 10% to 70% in an average of 4 minutes and 30 seconds, 30 seconds faster than BYD's flash charging time of 5 minutes. The SOC reaches 97% from 10% in an average of 8 minutes and 40 seconds, also outpacing BYD's 9-minute mark.

Public information reveals that Geely has been deeply involved in the energy replenishment sector for years. In 2021, it introduced an 800V high-voltage platform, increased the single-gun peak power to 600 kilowatts in 2022, to 1,500 kilowatts in 2025, and pushed it to 2,250 kilowatts in 2026, setting a new industry benchmark. In contrast, another industry leader has a single-gun peak power of only 1,500 kilowatts, still at Geely's 2025 level.

From a charging safety perspective, a major concern for consumers, Geely Intelligent Charging employs an AI temperature rise prediction algorithm to forecast battery internal temperature changes 30 seconds in advance. The system intelligently and dynamically allocates power to ensure the average battery temperature does not exceed 55 degrees Celsius, with the maximum temperature remaining below 65 degrees Celsius. Moreover, it utilizes a full-link five-end liquid cooling solution to rapidly dissipate heat throughout the process, further ensuring safety during fast charging.

In terms of fast charging, if BYD's flash charging marked the first breakthrough in addressing the 'energy replenishment weakness' of all-electric vehicles, Geely Intelligent Charging takes it to the next level, not only charging faster but also excellently solving the temperature rise issue during fast charging, offering consumers tangible safety benefits.

Considering practicality, the all-new Galaxy E5 does not rush to replace all batteries with the 395mm Shennon Golden Brick Battery Ultra-Short Blade Series. Instead, it is equipped with the more practical 370mm variant to better match Geely's existing 1.2 self-built charging guns.

Of course, the 370mm Shennon Golden Brick Battery Ultra-Short Blade Series in the all-new Galaxy E5 also adopts Galaxy's new-generation AI Intelligent Charging technology, paired with the Thunder 16-in-1 silicon carbide intelligent electric drive, achieving a peak charging power of up to 460kW. Under normal temperature conditions, charging from 10% to 70% takes only 8 minutes and 25 seconds, with an electric drive comprehensive efficiency as high as 93.8% and a hundred-kilometer electricity consumption of only 11.8kWh.

With a peak charging rate of 6C and a charging time of only 8 minutes and 25 seconds for the SOC to rise from 10% to 70%, although this value is slightly inferior to BYD's flash charging, compared to the first-generation Galaxy E5, the all-new model represents a significant leap in the three-electric field. This revolutionary change transforms the all-new Galaxy E5 into a cross-era vehicle.

Furthermore, the customized short-blade battery cell in the all-new Geely Galaxy E5 adopts innovative technologies such as high-voltage-resistant insulating gold film, ensuring the battery remains fire-, explosion-, and thermal runaway-free in extreme scenarios, with a lower risk of thermal runaway in high-voltage environments.

How Will the All-New Galaxy E5 Surpass Its Predecessor After 'One Million Galaxies'?

Since the Galaxy brand achieved annual deliveries exceeding one million units in 2025, as the brand's first all-electric compact SUV, how the all-new Galaxy E5 should make its mark and help the Galaxy brand achieve both a leap in quantity and an increase in the average selling price per vehicle has become key to unlocking Geely Auto's growth potential.

Firstly, in terms of product strategy, Geely has retained the classic version of the previous Galaxy E5, which still uses a 400V architecture instead of an 800V one. This version brings the starting price of the all-new Galaxy E5 down to 107,800 yuan, with an early-bird price of just 97,800 yuan, i.e., below 100,000 yuan. On the one hand, this creates a price shock; on the other hand, by retaining this particular version, it also preserves a pathway for users who are more sensitive to practicality and price. In comparison, its competing model, the Yuan PLUS, has fully switched to flash charging and has a higher starting price of 119,900 yuan.

Except for the Classic version, all other versions of the all-new Galaxy E5 adopt a brand-new native all-electric rear-wheel-drive architecture. The benefit of this new architecture is that it makes the vehicle's axle load more even, approaching a 50:50 ratio, comprehensively improving the vehicle's dynamic balance. The moose test score has also reached 81km/h, higher than the previous model's 78.19km/h. This moose test score for the all-new Galaxy E5 is very excellent in its market segment.

In terms of suspension, except for the Classic version, the all-new Galaxy E5 is equipped with a five-link suspension. This change in the rear suspension allows the all-new Galaxy E5 to achieve more precise and comprehensive control over the wheels, resulting in greater stability at high speeds, less body roll during continuous lane changes, and higher limits during emergency evasion, enhancing the vehicle's overall handling.

High-end models further feature CCD intelligent variable damping suspension, which can actively adjust the suspension state according to different road conditions. It becomes softer when going over speed bumps and harder when taking high-speed corners, providing a driving experience far superior to that of a '100,000-yuan-level' vehicle.

In terms of power, the all-new Geely Galaxy E5 is equipped with the Thunder 16-in-1 intelligent electric drive, boasting a massive power output of 245kW and delivering 333 horsepower, enabling a sub-5-second zero-to-100km/h acceleration. The higher power and greater horsepower are also important reasons why this vehicle switched from front-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive. We see the same phenomenon in the competing model, the Yuan PLUS.

In terms of intelligent driving, the all-new Galaxy E5 is equipped with the Qianli Haohan H5 assisted driving system, adopting a LiDAR solution with 27 high-performance sensors throughout the vehicle. It features an onboard one-stage end-to-end large model, with both highway NOA (Navigate on Autopilot) and urban NOA available, covering 19 high-frequency complex scenarios such as roundabout navigation, large vehicle avoidance, and U-turns. Its assisted driving capabilities are comparable to those of an experienced driver, providing users with a smooth and reassuring driving experience. For today's consumers, such intelligent driving capabilities are more than sufficient.

The product upgrades of the all-new Galaxy E5 clearly position this vehicle at the core of the entire all-electric compact SUV market. In this position, there are also several popular models: the Changan Qiyuan Q05, Shenlan S05, Botai 3X, and BYD Yuan PLUS. Among these, the BYD Yuan PLUS and Geely Galaxy E5 are the products that can maintain relatively high prices while also being technologically advanced. Especially after the Yuan PLUS and the all-new Galaxy E5 introduce flash charging and intelligent charging, respectively, the leading trend of these two companies will be further consolidated.

From Geely Galaxy's perspective, in 2025, Geely Galaxy achieved cumulative annual sales of 1.2358 million units, a year-on-year surge of 150%. Not only did it exceed its annual target of 'one million Galaxies,' but it also set a record as the fastest new energy brand to reach one million sales in just 25 months.

Throughout 2025, Geely Group's total sales reached 3.0246 million units, with the Galaxy brand accounting for over 40%, supporting nearly half of the group's new energy business and becoming a benchmark case for traditional automakers transitioning to new energy.

For the Galaxy brand, optimizing the product structure of the Galaxy series and increasing the average selling price per vehicle, rather than putting all the pressure on the A0-class small car Xingyuan, which starts at just 64,800 yuan, or the comprehensive upgrade and facelift of the all-new Galaxy E5, are important goals. As a compact SUV, the success of the Galaxy E5 to a certain extent determines the success of the Galaxy brand.

As the Galaxy brand's first all-electric SUV, the first-generation Galaxy E5 was launched in August 2024 and sold over 160,000 units throughout 2025, ranking second in sales within the Galaxy brand after the Xingyuan. Now, with the arrival of the all-new Galaxy E5, it faces even fiercer competition. On the one hand, there is BYD's Yuan PLUS with its flash charging ahead, and on the other hand, the Shenlan S05 is catching up with its high-quality rear-wheel-drive chassis, coupled with the extremely low price of the Qiyuan Q05. The pressure on the all-new Geely Galaxy E5 is not small. So, can this vehicle emerge from such fierce competition and become the key player in the Galaxy brand's rapid growth? We'll have to wait and see.
