According to foreign media reports, Meta plans to cut 50 vice president (VP) positions.
It is reported that the number of Meta's vice presidents peaked last year, with about 300 VPs, and Zuckerberg hopes to reduce this number to around 250.
Meta has already made several rounds of layoffs before, cutting 11,000 jobs in November 2022 and announcing plans to cut another 10,000 jobs in March 2023, while freezing recruitment for 5,000 vacant positions.
This is another measure following Meta's "Efficiency Year" in 2023, aiming to reduce the number of middle and top management and increase the number of bottom-level employees, in order to flatten the organizational structure and improve efficiency.
By the end of 2023, Meta's employee count stood at 67,317, down from 86,482 at the end of 2022, marking the first year-on-year decline in Meta's employee count, further confirming Zuckerberg's determination to streamline the company.
Zuckerberg said last year that a streamlined organization would be able to execute its top priorities faster, and employees would work more efficiently, with jobs becoming more interesting and fulfilling.
Users on the forum have discussed the salary situation of Meta VPs, and based on the combined opinions of netizens, laying off one VP can save between 3 million and 10 million US dollars annually, equivalent to approximately 194.1 million to 323.5 million yuan at the current exchange rate. Cutting 50 people can save a total of 9.7 billion to 16.2 billion yuan annually.
