On July 10, 2024, Trelleborg, one of the leading companies in the engineered coated fabrics industry, announced that it will develop a new factory for its engineered coated fabrics business in Gateway West Commerce Park, Rutherford County, North Carolina, USA. This construction is not only a crucial part of Rutherford County's vision to promote the development of advanced manufacturing but also Trelleborg's second core factory in the region, which is expected to further consolidate Trelleborg's position as an industry leader and local pillar enterprise. This move will also further increase Trelleborg's production capacity to better serve global customers, including supporting the development of the Chinese market.
Trelleborg invests in capacity and sustainable development to better serve customers
The initial investment by Trelleborg exceeds $30 million. In addition to investing in state-of-the-art production capabilities, Trelleborg also plans to further invest to ensure that the factory and its operations remain at the forefront of sustainable development.
Steve Brockman, President of Trelleborg Engineered Coated Fabrics, said, "By investing in sustainability and capacity, we will better meet the diverse needs of our customers and have a positive impact on the local community. Our new factory will be LEED-certified, and our operations will achieve carbon neutrality and zero emissions. This investment will help us expand the use of biopolymers and recyclable raw materials, contributing to Trelleborg's and its partners' goal of product circularity."
Trelleborg deepens regional cooperation to promote local community development
Rutherford County Commission Chairman Bryan King said, "I sincerely appreciate Trelleborg's continued investment and unwavering commitment to our community. As a key pillar enterprise in our county and a critical partner in community initiatives, Trelleborg's expansion demonstrates not only its deep affection for Rutherford County but also its selfless dedication to its development."
Dr. Margaret Annunziata, President of Isothermal Community College, added, "Trelleborg is not only our first corporate sponsor for the new Engineering Technology and Workforce Development Building but also an essential partner in our international student exchange program. We have a long history of cooperation with Trelleborg, so we are thrilled about this new investment and its close connection with the college."
Steve Brockman, President of Trelleborg Engineered Coated Fabrics, further emphasized, "Our close partnership with local governments and Isothermal Community College played a decisive role in determining the location of the new factory. We have been cooperating with Isothermal Community College for over two decades. The new factory will strengthen our collaboration with the college and other local stakeholders, ensuring that we continue to cultivate skilled employees and inject robust momentum into the region's economic development. We anticipate that this investment will further broaden employment opportunities in the local community and attract further investment from multinational corporations."
New factory expected to commence full production in Q1 2026
Trelleborg anticipates that construction of the new factory will officially commence in Q4 2024, with full production targeted for Q1 2026.
