Worried about buying an iPhone 16 made in India? Apple: Every China Mainland iPhone is assembled in China

Last year, iPhone 15s were manufactured simultaneously in India and Mainland China, but only for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models. The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max were still 100% assembled in China.

However, this year's iPhone 16 is different. All four models in the series will be manufactured simultaneously in India, including the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. This has been confirmed by Indian media.

This has led to concerns among many netizens about purchasing an iPhone 16 made in India.

Many people have criticized India's low yield rate, numerous defects, and even alleged issues like curry smells and excessive E. coli bacteria.

When the iPhone 15 was first launched last year, many people also expressed similar concerns. Some netizens even boycotted Indian-made iPhone 15s, stating that they would refuse to purchase any model that indicated "Assembly in India" on the packaging and would only buy those labeled "Assembled in China".

Apple later acknowledged these concerns and posted on its official account that every China Mainland iPhone is "originally assembled in China," clarifying that models sold in China are not assembled in India.

In reality, this is quite understandable. It is rumored that only about 10-14% of last year's iPhone 15 series was assembled in India, with the rest assembled in China.

The iPhone 15s assembled in India were primarily supplied to the Indian market, with any excess sold to neighboring markets to reduce logistics costs.

China-assembled iPhone 15s accounted for over 85% of global production. Naturally, China Mainland models were primarily supplied to the Chinese market after assembly, minimizing logistics costs.

It doesn't make sense for Apple to ship Indian-made products to China for sale while keeping Chinese-made products out of their domestic market and shipping them to India instead. Apple is aware that Chinese consumers prefer non-Indian products, and it wouldn't intentionally incur higher logistics costs to upset Chinese users.

Similarly, for this year's iPhone 16 series, it's estimated that at most 20% (or last year's rate of around 14%) will be assembled in India, with over 80% assembled in China.

China-assembled units will primarily supply the Chinese market, with excess units distributed globally. Indian-assembled units will initially serve the Indian market, with any excess shipped to neighboring markets to minimize logistics costs. As a master of global supply chain management, Apple adheres to these fundamental principles and is unlikely to make mistakes.

So even if you want to buy an Indian-made iPhone 16, you won't be able to find one. Stop worrying and complaining about it; it's simply not an issue.
