As the saying goes, science is the primary productive force, and I believe everyone has a deep understanding of this.
Especially in today's society, economic development relies heavily on high-tech industries such as chips, AI, information technology, software, new energy, and more.
According to the US, it has been leading global technological advancements for the past 100 years, with almost all technological innovations originating from the country.
However, the situation has changed. The US acknowledges that China has caught up and even surpassed it in many fields, such as communication technology, 5G, new energy vehicles, and more.
Recently, an Australian think tank also joined the fray, analyzing the 64 most critical technologies in the global tech industry to determine who leads globally.
These 64 technologies encompass chips, quantum computing, medical countermeasures, AI, vaccines, aerospace, and more.
According to the Australian think tank, between 2003 and 2007, the US led in 60 of these 64 key technologies, significantly ahead of the world, while China only led in three.
However, from 2019 to 2023, there has been a remarkable shift. Now, the US only leads in seven technologies, including quantum computing, vaccines, and medical countermeasures.
In contrast, China has risen from leading in three to 57 technologies, accounting for over 90% of the global leadership.
While other countries led in one technology during 2003-2007, the competition now primarily revolves around China and the US, with other nations lagging behind in all 64 key technologies.
Based on this, the Australian think tank suggests increased cooperation with China to avoid being excluded from advanced technologies as the times change.
What do you think of this analysis? While it may be somewhat exaggerated, it reflects the rapid development China has undergone in recent years. In many fields, China has transformed from a laggard to a leader, and this advantage is likely to grow.
This is precisely why the US and Western countries are wary of China, especially as China's rise threatens their positions. Seeing China taking the lead in various industries, the US has resorted to suppressing China to maintain its dominance. If China posed no threat, the US would not be concerned.
