According to a report by Kuai Technology on September 4, domestic media reported that informed sources revealed that the Taobao App will soon fully support WeChat Pay.
This also indicates that the interconnection between Alibaba and Tencent, two giants, in terms of payment is expected to be realized.
As early as October last year, some netizens reported that the "WeChat QR code payment" option appeared on their Taobao App payment page, attracting attention.
At that time, Taobao customer service responded, "The WeChat QR code payment function is still gradually being opened up, and is currently only open to some users, and only some products support this payment method. Whether it can be used or not is subject to the page display."
In February of this year, the topic "#Taobao is gradually opening up WeChat Pay#" once again trended on social media. In a video released by Pear Video, the process of jumping from a Taobao order to WeChat Pay involved no unnecessary operations, making it a seamless one-click experience.
Currently, WeChat Pay is not yet available on the Taobao App. Regarding this, Taobao's official customer service also stated that WeChat Pay is still in trial and has not been fully opened yet. Whether a user's order can use WeChat Pay should be based on the payment page.
From an industry perspective, if Taobao fully integrates WeChat Pay, it would signify the gradual opening up of the previously closed systems between giants, leading to a win-win situation for all parties involved.
For Taobao, integrating WeChat Pay would help increase conversion rates. Even a one percent increase in conversion rates can contribute significantly to revenue, given Taobao's large scale.
