A reputable institution has recently released data on global mobile phone sales distribution for May 2025. The following chart ranks these brands based on their market share.
The top 10 brands include Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, VIVO, TECNO, OPPO, Honor, Lenovo, Huawei, realme, OnePlus, and Google, among others. The top 12 brands collectively account for 95% of the global market, highlighting a significant concentration of market share. The remaining 5% is primarily made up of localized brands in specific countries and regions, which have minimal influence.
In terms of national origin, Chinese brands undeniably lead the pack. Among the top 12, nine are Chinese, representing over 58% of the market share. If additional Chinese brands within that 5% are considered, the share could exceed 60%.
Among Chinese brands, Xiaomi stands out with a global market share of up to 14%. While VIVO appears second on the surface, OPPO effectively holds the second position, with its main brand accounting for 7%, realme contributing 4%, and OnePlus adding 1%, totaling 12%. Notably, these three brands are all part of the OPPO umbrella, solidifying its position as the second-leading domestic brand.
The table also reveals that the Chinese mobile phone market is even more fiercely competitive than the global one, with all nine major brands being Chinese enterprises. As such, the Chinese market serves as their home turf, where competition is naturally more intense.
Consequently, Samsung, the global market leader, has been virtually squeezed out of the Chinese market by domestic brands, and Apple, the global runner-up, risks being displaced from the top five by Chinese competitors.
The chart above shows the ranking of the Chinese mobile phone market in the first quarter. The top six brands account for 95% of the market share, indicating an even higher concentration. Among foreign brands, only Apple ranks fifth, with Samsung absent from the list.
Considering these data sets, it is foreseeable that as Chinese brands continue to strengthen, they may eventually dominate the entire global mobile phone market. Unless countries like the United States close their borders and prohibit the entry of Chinese phones, it seems unlikely that any other brand will be able to compete effectively with Chinese brands.
