Yu Chengdong announced the start of the HarmonyOS NEXT beta test, and there are several details to be aware of!

Today is a significant day for Huawei, with the protagonist being the long-awaited HarmonyOS NEXT. This is a domestically developed operating system with completely replaced system-level code and no longer compatible with Android. Many people have been waiting for this moment for a long time. Yu Chengdong announced at today's conference that the HarmonyOS NEXT beta test has been launched and officially released the progress plan from the beta version to official commercial use. Although many people have known about it ahead of time, speaking in such a formal setting is a confirmation of the matter, giving those who have expectations a bit more reassurance. However, there are still a few issues to note from Huawei's officially announced testing plan.

Firstly, regarding the testable devices, this is slightly different from the previous information on the internet. Currently, only the Mate 60 series, Mate X5 and Collector's Edition, MatePad Pro 13.2-inch and Collector's Edition devices can participate in the test, meaning that only 8 devices in total can participate in the early developer version test of HarmonyOS NEXT.

By August this year, the "beta" officially labeled here should refer to the public beta version. The number of testable devices will still be limited, only including the Pura 70 series, Pocket 20 series, freebuds pro earbuds, and MatePad Pro 11-inch. Even when the official commercial version is released in the fourth quarter, there will be no changes to the available devices compared to August. During the beta version stage, eligible devices wishing to experience it must apply in advance, and the number of spots is limited. It will only be pushed to all upgradable devices when the official version is released.

However, Huawei has officially confirmed that the Mate 70 series will be the first to launch HarmonyOS NEXT, meaning that other devices will receive the update later. During the official commercial use, some devices, including the nova 12 series (excluding the Vitality Edition), will start a new round of testing. It can be seen that before the end of 2024, there will not be many devices that can upgrade to experience HarmonyOS NEXT compared to Huawei's vast product line. This number is relatively small, but fortunately, Huawei has also clearly stated that more devices will be supported in 2025.

One thing to note is that HarmonyOS NEXT is completely incompatible with Android and is not compatible with some system data of the current 4.2 version. It is very important to back up data in advance, but due to the incompatibility between the systems, some data may not be recoverable even if backed up in advance. Therefore, once upgraded to the NEXT version, be cautious when deciding whether to rollback.

Of course, Huawei officially announced some substantial content of HarmonyOS NEXT at this conference, such as HarmonyOS Native AI: Harmony Intelligence, a series of practical AI features that will be launched陆续, as well as Cangjie programming language, which developers can use this Huawei-developed programming language for application development.

In terms of system security, HarmonyOS NEXT is also very powerful, and applications that do not meet security requirements will not be able to be published.

Finally, I still want to say that Huawei's self-developed capabilities are sometimes truly admirable. What do you think, everyone?
