Regarding HarmonyOS, Yu Chengdong made many promises, and so far, most of them have been fulfilled.
Currently, the user base has exceeded 900 million, second only to Android and iOS. In the Chinese new market, its share has reached 17%, surpassing iOS and ranking second domestically, forming a three-way standoff with Android and Apple.
Meanwhile, the pure-blood HarmonyOS NEXT has also been released, scheduled for commercial use in the fourth quarter. Clearly, Yu Chengdong's initial ambitious goals are essentially set to be fully achieved this year.
However, what everyone is eagerly anticipating, the last territory of HarmonyOS, does not have a clear timeline yet, and that is the PC version of HarmonyOS, which has not been launched yet.
Nevertheless, although Huawei has not officially announced it, it is actually close to completion, as Huawei has already revealed its UI at the press conference.
During the HarmonyOS NEXT version release, Huawei released the HarmonyOS Application Design Guidelines, which clearly showcased the interface of the HarmonyOS version for PCs, displaying the UI of the file resource manager.
At the same time, at Huawei's HDC2024 Developer Conference, we could also see an official presentation slide featuring a system UI photo of HarmonyOS for PCs.
It is evident that the PC version of HarmonyOS is not far from us, and Wang Chenglu also stated last year that there will be a HarmonyOS PC version, expected for 2024, which aligns with all these developments.
When HarmonyOS was first released, Yu Chengdong stated that it was a unified system that could be used for phones, tablets, computers, and so on, one system to handle all devices.
Currently, HarmonyOS has covered all devices except for PCs, with the PC being the last puzzle piece. Now, it seems that this last puzzle piece is not far from completion.
However, unlike its use on phones, introducing it to PCs will face significantly greater resistance. On one hand, the Windows system has already monopolized the market, and it is difficult for any other operating system to compete with Windows in the PC field.
Windows' monopoly is consolidated through its ecosystem, with tens of millions of apps, compatible with tens of millions of hardware devices, and numerous proprietary software. It is almost certain that these software will not have a HarmonyOS PC version.
In addition, when buying a phone, users can have HarmonyOS preinstalled, and they cannot install Android or other systems on their own. But it's different on computers; even if you preinstall HarmonyOS, users can still switch to Windows.
Perhaps because of this, the PC version of HarmonyOS has not been released yet, as the chances of success are not high. There are various considerations involved.
However, if the HarmonyOS PC version is released and is compatible with mobile apps, it would still be quite attractive. After all, with the release of the pure-blood version of HarmonyOS and the budding HarmonyOS ecosystem, the introduction of a PC version spanning both PCs and phones would be highly imaginative.
Next, let's see when and how the HarmonyOS PC version will appear. I believe everyone can't wait anymore.
