Quick Technology news on July 16th, according to Indian media reports, PC giant Acer is planning to return to the smartphone market.

India's Indkal Technologies announced that it has signed a licensing cooperation agreement with Acer to design, manufacture, and sell Acer-branded smartphone products in India.

Acer ventured into the smartphone market around 2010 and launched mobile phone products based on Windows Mobile and Android systems. It also collaborated with Alibaba to launch Aliyun system phones.

However, due to various reasons, Acer gradually withdrew from this field.

The smartphones from this collaboration will mainly target the mid-range market, with a price range of 15,000 to 50,000 Indian rupees (approximately RMB 1,303 to RMB 4,345).

Indkal has set an ambitious goal of manufacturing 1 million devices annually and is actively applying for funding from the Indian government's Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme.

This initiative will not only help improve production efficiency and reduce manufacturing costs but will also further promote the development of the local smartphone industry in India.

Jade Zhou, Vice President of Global Strategic Alliances at Acer, said that this will expand end-user options and enrich their experience in the Indian market. The phones will also follow the "Make in India" initiative, being manufactured locally in India and equipped with advanced software technology.
