It's said that Yu Chengdong drafts his boasts and doesn't make them up randomly.
Many people have kept track of Yu Chengdong's boasts, which have been realized, some faster and some slower, but most eventually. That's why many people say that Yu Chengdong is responsible for the boasts, while Huawei is responsible for making them a reality, ultimately growing bigger and stronger.
And it seems to be the same with HarmonyOS. Yu Chengdong's boasts are about to be fully realized, and the last piece of Huawei's HarmonyOS puzzle is also about to be completed.
At the HarmonyOS launch event in August 2019, Yu Chengdong stated that HarmonyOS adopts a microkernel, which is completely different from Android, iOS, etc. It also uses a soft bus structure, enabling it to adapt to a wide range of devices.
Therefore, HarmonyOS is a unified operating system that can be used in mobile phones, tablets, cars, IoT, TVs, computers, watches, and other devices.
For a while, everyone said that HarmonyOS is the future, a single system to rule them all, one system that can do the work of Apple's N systems, as Apple has different systems for different devices, such as iOS, MacOS, PadOS, TVOS, watchOS, etc.
Later, just as Yu Chengdong boasted, HarmonyOS was used in TVs, watches, mobile phones, tablets, IoT, cars, etc., but there was no movement on the PC front.
Then the father of HarmonyOS, Wang Chenglu, stated that there would be a PC version of HarmonyOS, which would be launched in 2024. Everyone eagerly anticipated its release.
Recently, it was discovered that the interface of the PC version of HarmonyOS has appeared in the design guidelines on Huawei's HarmonyOS developer official website.
As shown in the image above, these interfaces are respectively the HarmonyOS interfaces for mobile phones, foldable screens, tablets, and PCs. The interface on the far right is clearly the PC version.
The design guidelines also showcase the page layout of the HarmonyOS PC version, with adapted applications covering scenarios such as audio-visual, social, shopping, finance, lifestyle, travel, etc.
From the interface perspective, the HarmonyOS PC version adopts a scheme similar to Mac, with the status bar at the top and the Dock bar at the bottom, where commonly used functions and applications can be placed, making it more convenient and visually appealing compared to Windows.
According to relevant sources, the HarmonyOS PC version is also expected to debut when the official version of HarmonyOS NEXT is released.
And once the PC version of HarmonyOS appears, Yu Chengdong's initial boasts will have all been realized, completing the best piece of the HarmonyOS puzzle, truly enabling its use on all devices and becoming a unified system.
However, to be honest, although the PC version of HarmonyOS may soon appear, if it wants to compete with Windows, it will require long-term efforts. After all, the Windows ecosystem is currently invincible and has no rivals.
Unlike mobile phone systems, which are built-in and cannot be replaced by users, PC system users can freely switch between systems.
